Thaendar Ironhelm
Thaendar is a warrior from bryn-shander in the ten towns.
Following the typical diety of the region, Thaendar was raised to follow the lord of battle, Tempus. Thaendar was teased a great deal by the other children and quick to take to anger and fists. Because of his size,
Thaendar was teased about his suspected parental heritage. Although a true human villager, Thaendar's mother was accused of begotten him with one of the Uthgard barbarians of the region. Although never verified, the sheer size, strength and temperament of Thaendar was always brought into question. Naturally, many came to the same conclusion on their own.
Trained as a warrior, Thaendar always sought out the clerics of Tempus in town and swelled with pride when in their presence. Wanting nothing more than to become one of the battle priests, he was always turned away by the clergy.
Not knowing why, Thaendar never lost hope and continued to worship Tempus in his own way. Being refused into the clergy ranks, Thaendar sought to venerate Tempus in his own manner through feats of honor, strength and worthy combat. Throughout his teenager years,
there was no test of strength or valor that Thaendar had failed to participate in, nor be the last participant standing.
When a travelling adventuring company led by a swordmaster of Tempus travelled through the Ten-Towns, Thaendar took notice and sought to join the ranks. The adventurers had recently returned from destroying a local tribe or Orcs and sought to combat a local white dragon's cave for honor....not to mention it's gold horde!. The dragon Izzith'inth'imar was a middle aged white wyrm known for his evil and cunning. After returning successfully from their last battle, the adventuring party stopped in Bryn-Shander for a rest and well wearned celebration. Upon hearing
the bard's tales and local legends, they sought to find the white dragon and retrieve his hoard in the process. The day before they left, Thaendar was honored for besting all but the swordmaster in a threefold test of Tempus. The challenge consisted of a test of fearlessness, a test of strength and a test of militaristic skill.
Thaendar had managed to best all but two of the adventuring party, save that of the swordmaster and his second in command, a priestess of the Red Knight. The 2nd took up the challenge after being impressed that the young warrior had bested all of her subordinates.
Although beating the woman in the feat of strength and fearlessness, she had bested Thaendar in a game similar to chess that taught military cunning and skill. The test/game utilized controlling an army of warriors in a game not unlike mass-chest. Although putting up an impressive
fight, Thaendar failed in the presence of the experienced military leader. Looking on the young warriors accomplishments, the grizzled swordmaster saw himself in the young man and imparted Thaendar with a gift. Being a renowned warrior and battle priest alike, the visiting war cleric commanded awe-inspiring divine magics. Recognizing something in Thaendar, the priest gave him a saccred token of Tempus's divine might; a small shield shaped icon the height of Thaendar's hand.
The shield was blood red with the image of a flaming sword in it's center, looped with a steel chain that allowed the symbol to be used as an amulet or to be wrapped round the warriors hand.
When in combat, Thaendar took to wrapping the shield icon around his right hand so that the chain was visible in his palm and the shield faced outward from his hand. Thaendar continued to test himself in battle and honorable combat whenever the opportunity arose in the dangerous wilds of the Ten-Towns. After a lengthy pilgrimage to a sacred mountain range, Thaendar suffered a near-death battle with a very large mountain yeti. The warrior was awestruck to find his holy icon glowing with divine light when laying wounded within an arms-length from the defeated yeti. Embracing the symbol and speaking a prayer to the Foehammer, Thaendar found strength and healing radiating into his sword-arm and throughout his body, healing his battle wounds and imparting a strength of will that was beyond measure. Recognizing the favor of his deity, Thaendar continued to seek challenges and combat worthy of Tempus's patronage.
Within the year, Thaendar found himself leaving his childhood home behind in search of ever more dangerous adventures and combat. Attempting to search out the swordmaster and his adventuring party, who he had heard from local gossip mongers had been successful in his battle with the white dragon. Thaendar traveled along the sword coast, eventually ending up in Baldur's Gate. Throughout his travels, the young warrior continued to develop a relationship with his deity, ever-increasing his ability to tame and channel the divine magic.
