heya,
been contemplating an axe thrower build, a female dwarf,
so yes, i am making this post because it would benefit me, but also because i believe the current state of affairs regarding this subject seems unbalanced. it disadvantages some weapons and builds over others, for no apparent reason.
i used the search engine to see if the subject has come up already, i didn't find any threads specifically about this subject. i also searched for throwing axes with unlimited uses on the server itself, but only found bows with unlimited arrows. if i missed the subject or if these weapons can already be bought, i apologize.
arrows, shurikens, darts, bullets and throwing axes are projectiles.
i already have a warsling sniper, and even though the STR issues with the sling still has not been fixed entirely, i appreciate the effort made by the dev team.
i mention the warsling sniper, because if you use a sling, bow or crossbow to launch the projectiles, you have the advantage of applying the properties of that weapon to any projectile fired, which is neat. you can use ordinary ammunition like arrows, bolts and bullets (at very little cost - like 6 gold for 99) and still have the +4 enchantment bonus on every shot.
if you use throwing axes, darts or shurikens, the properties are on the projectiles directly. this means that once you run out you need to buy new ones, at significant cost (if you buy the good ones with enchantment, extra damage, etc. like 250- 500 gold for 50). now this post might evolve into a thread about math, and sure, that's fine, but i am sure we can agree that in the long run, if you make a build that uses throwing axes, darts or shurikens, you will end up spending insane sums of gold on these items, gold you are literally throwing away.
would it be possible to sell a stack of good throwing axes with enchantment and possibly other properties on them, that have unlimited uses, and then set the prize as if you are buying a sling, bow or crossbow? i mean, normally you would be able to pick up some of your projectiles after an engagement, and you would not carry 4000 bullets (or throwing axes) around with you, like my slinger does.

Playing a build wholly committed to throwing axes I can only agree with this post. I carry around 20k throwing axes, and that's not counting the mundane I carry for easy zones. I end up using 25-50% of my earnings on new axes, so I would definitely appreciate it if it was possible to make something with unlimited uses. If I don't use haggler PCs to help me purchase new axes, the percentage would be higher.
I played on an NWN1 server where they fixed this issue by making a bag with the ability to create axes, the problem would then be making it so the items cannot be dropped or traded, perhaps using the same properties as is used for cursed items? Of course, unlimited uses would be preferable but this could be a workaround? This would help with the gold- and space consumption.
