Advice on building a NWN2 world for fun

Hope everyone is doing well. Been a long time. I used to play a lot in BG back in the day. Got a small Hobbey farm, three kids, a wife, and a job now.

I miss my NWN2 days and it doesn’t look like they will ever make a real NWN2 sequel where you can build your own world. I don’t even have a computer anymore but might get one soon. I was thinking of building my own module for fun. A rebuild of the old dnd module Keep of the Borderlands. I wanted to do it only if there was a working crafting system for the toolset. Has anyone developed a working crafting system for in game? I know that there was a world that had something like that, but I forget the name.

Thoughts? Man I wish they would come up with a real sequel with an updated building engine. I might just get back to NWN2 just to play. I was thinking of running my module just for my college friends.

Is it hard to build beautiful areas? My 8 year old son is a bit of a whiz and genius. I was thinking of turning him on to NWN2 toolset so he could build a world for me.

Heh,

Lam

Hi Lambert. That's the problem with getting older: you have less and less time for your hobbies. Until you're retired perhaps. But who knows, maybe this server is still online when we hit that landmark. I can only answer to your last question about the difficulty of building beautiful areas. Is it difficult? Not really, once you learn to use the toolset. The problem is that the toolset is quite different from the old NWN1 toolset and creating beautiful areas requires some visual and artistic skills. Also, building with the toolset is really time consuming. And I mean REALLY time consuming. The good thing is that Keep of the Borderlands -type of world would not require too many city areas which are the most time consuming and annoying to build.

According to my own experience kids less than 10 years old lack the patience for this kind of tasks. So using child labor might not work. Although it sounds kinda promising. Hm...

Hey that was a great response.

Thanks you had me chuckling.

So I got the go ahead from my friend to use the notes from his DND campeign to model for the world. If I remember correctly NWN runs best of Windows XP professional. Can I build the world on the current Windows 10? Or should I get a copy of windows XP to build and host the world?
