Archmages and Counterspelling

heya,
contemplating a wizard build, my first, where i want to make an abjuration specialist. protection magic, dispelling etc. i think it is a cool idea, i am however, after having spend a few hours investigating this, utterly confused by the inconsistensies between the class descriptions in character creation section (when you log in and go to create character), information available here on the forums, and the information on the wiki.
i have asked around, other players, a DM, but i have mostly gotten "i wouldnt do that", "thats a poor build", "i dont know", "i think maybe" etc., which didnt really help me much.
i would like a Dev or someone who actually KNOWS for certain, to answer the following:
do the following feats work and/or work properly?:
Counterspell
Improved Counterspell
Reactive Counterspell
Epic Counterspell
Archmage special ability: Counterspelling Mastery
nothing in the wiki suggests that they are not working, but the forums from a year back or more, say they are not working at all, or that they are not working properly. now i assume if they are not working they would have been disabled or at least a warning would be attached to their description or similar?
regarding Counterspelling Mastery, the feat is listed in the description of Archmage in the character creation section, but it does not appear on the wiki as a selectable ability under Archmage PrC? also, the feat "Augment Form" is said to have been added to the selectable abilities for Hierophants, Archmages etc. yet i cannot see Augment Form as a selectable feat for Archmages, not in the wiki, not in the character creation section/class description.
also, can someone explain the mechancis of Arcane Fire to me?
1. you sacrifice a level 9 spell to be able to blast arcane fire at will? meaning unlimited blasts like a walock? or...
2. you sacrifice a level 9 spell for the opportunity, to sacrifice further spells from various levels as blasts of arcane fire?
3. ?
thanks in advance
