Proposed system in addition to RCR

Hello All,

I realize I'm new here but I wanted to propose this. Since I see a lot of debate about allowing regular RCR and the issues with the RCR penalty. I'd like to propose another re-leveling system IN ADDITION to the current RCR system that I feel keeps the spirit of the RCR penalty but also allows for more player convenience.

My proposal is that we get a Releveling system that allows characters to drop their EXISTING character to level 1 and relevel them without penalty. Why? Currently I see the RCR serving 2 completely separate purposes.

Use Case #1 - TRUE RCR - New Character - RCR is being used by a player who wants to create a new character and wants to keep some of the XP they used from a prior level so they don't have to start from scratch. This is what I consider the CORRECT use of the RCR system and I would propose no change to it. I fully understand the many drawbacks to allowing a player to delete a level 30 fighter one second and within minutes have a brand new 30 level (insert whatever class here) without any time or effort spent.

Use Case #2 - Releveling Existing Char - I'd venture to guess that 75% of the use of RCR is not used to create new characters but instead is used to relevel existing characters, probably a lot of times because they didn't like the feat they chose, messed up skill selection or some other tedious thing. I don't think RCR should be required for this. In this case, it would be nice to have a "Releveler" NPC at the nexus that could just drop your existing character to level 1 but retain all of your experience. Remember, for this case, you're still stuck with character name and most importantly, initial class and race selection, so the game won't be ending up with a brand new god-power character of a new class, just a releveled version of an existing, known character. I think this use case could be streamlined greatly as a way to let players have more freedom and not worry as much about making mistakes while also not allowing new high level characters from scratch.

My two cents

Thanks!

Delevelling causes numerous bugs and exploits to occur and be possible. Presently, DMs can offering delevelling, taking XP away for good as they do so, while keeping records and notes on PCs they delevelled to prevent said exploits from occuring. For instance, wizards may only be delevelled only once, as such can permit them to exploit the way spells are learnt.

Ah, didn't realize that. Make sense.

RCR that is present now is the result a solution to fix the issue with deleveling to fix a class, because in order for it to be done without any issues you needed to make a new character anyway.

Makes sense. Now I get why people want a monthly 100% RCR. Thanks for all replies.
