Open Locks vs Bashing Locks

Hello,
I have heard different things regarding bashing locks open reduce loot quality of items found in chests versus picking locks open. Can someone who actually know this for a fact confirm or deny?
Thanks.

In terms of our server it's the same either way. I believe in the OC/base game bashing chests will sometimes break items (though maybe I'm thinking of BG1/BG2?) but that's not the case here, bashing it open will not decrease the quality of your loot.
That being said, opening locks does provide those characters who can do so with a small bit of exp and the RP involved, so it's always courteous to let your lock picker do their job if you have one.

That's actually a pretty good idea. I'll look into implementing something like this to ping nearby monsters to your location if you bash chests open.

Just add a chance to spawn a bunch as the looter has it's head in the chest

spawn Yellow Mobs please, so that the looter gets more loot from the chest + yellow mobs dead.

NERF BASHERS!!!
But seriously, why not a 5% chance to have contents ruined if a chest is bashed? The assumption is that chests have imbedded locks and bashing implies literally cracking the chest open like an egg with a warmace! And surely, potions can break, scrolls get ripped, armor is dented beyond repair and swords are broken in two (and the Art of Gear maintenance has been lost along with Netheril).
Really though, throw Rogues a bone. And up those Locks to compensate for mini-investments is Skills that power build looters commonly have.
See, Steve is everyone’s friend!!! Lol. Not.

I dig the % chance to spawn/attract enemies. Not sure about broken items though. I'm pretty sure most people know how to hit a lock without smashing the whole box. Even on an embedded lock, you'd have to be a raging maniac to break anything more than flimsy glass, certainly not dent armor.
Also, there are already about 1/2 chests per dungeon that cannot be bashed open, so picking does result in a small increase in haul as it is now.

I mean... wouldn't most people who literally make their livelihood raiding dungeons develop some familiarity with common locks? Though I think upping 1 or 2 chests per dungeon up to the 40-50 range (out of reach of most 1 point +1-2 item bonuses) would probably be fair.

Thanks for clarifying it up.
Seems like the best solution is to add one more two more magically locked chests into each area =)

The real downside to bashing a box instead of picking the lock is you get XP for picking the lock.

More dungeons should be designed like the pirate cave...DC 45-50 locks protecting some chests, as well as a lot of traps, but enemies a rogue has difficulty with (crit immune, dispel and mind affecting spamming bards, etc.) That dungeon is on the cusp of being really good as an area you should bring a party to and not attempt to solo. If there were a few more areas that triggered encounters based on party size and level it would probably be the outline to use for future dungeon design.

You can solo that dungeon with certain rogue builds.
EDIT: I'll also add that dungeon is terrible for more fighter builds than rogue builds, because your typical Weaponmaster build is ineffective in this dungeon other than to soak damage.
