Baldur's Gate : The Sword Coast Chronicles : NWN2 Persistent World

As title states. I get the piercing weapon effect with a standard +4 greatsword. I have had a DM change it with a fresh one, still does piercing damage.

I have had both the original weapon (before the dm trade) and the NH feat before the changes that gave the new effects. I assume a new weapon wouldn't help.

Is anyone else experiencing the same thing?

Perhaps a redo of character or removal and application of feat would help - I haven't tried that exactly.

My character sheet does not reflect the lost attack (from 4 to 3) but I assume that is how the feat works?

I bought a non-magical falchion to test it out. NH worked as intended with a nicely animated whirlwind attack. Then I tried with a non-magical greatsword - and then it was piercing again! So I suppose greatswords are bugged?

Had the same issue with a greatsword once over a year ago. But back then it only happened with one specific greatsword, not with all of them.

Dang has it been a year since it was implemented? I've been gone for a long time then.

The issue has been resolved with the latest update where greatswords where changed from piercing-slashing to only slashing. Thanks a bunch!

Obsidian somehow set greatsword to piercing and slashing, they must have had a reason but I cannot fathom what it was.

Many RL greatswords were by design used to thrust, and specifically against an increasing use of plate armor, but could still slash like a one-handed or hand-and-a-half blade, when needed. This would make a greatsword also effective against mounted opponents!

That is the case for most swords, especially as plate armor advanced. If you wanted to be really realistic, most swords should be slashing, piercing, and bludgeoning (mordhau strikes).

But! Greatsword in DnD 3.5 at least is just supposed to be slashing. Most likely it was slashing-piercing on NWN2 just due to a development oversight.

And longsword and bastard swords are technically the same thing in real life....


But this is just a game
