FUR OF MEMBERSHIP (DR ITEMS)

After purchasing the (30k gp) Fur of Membership from the NPC Merchant Arnbjorn in the East Gate District bazaar, and testing the Resistance 5 Piercing thoroughly with the player Arn, it is found to not work. Full damage is delivered and no damage is negated despite a message to the contrary stating that 5 damage was absorbed.

Would like the gold back when possible please and such DR items to be fixed or removed from the stores.

Silly question perhaps:

Is it meant to work in magical weapons too or only on non-magical?

Did you try both?

I am merely curious, no idea what the actual real answer is if whether it was meant to be negating non-magical piercing damage, or all piercing damage.

The weapon I tried was non-magical. Not sure whether the weapon Arn tried was magical or not but the same result from both. Its one of those Piercing 5/- descriptions which I take to mean it should absorb five of any piercing damage (regardless of enchantment level) as opposed to DR 5/+3 etc.

We were getting the message popping up "Absorbed 5 Piercing Damage," "Absorbed 3 Piercing Damage" etc. But it actually wasnt absorbing any damage. I suspect it could be the same issue for the Epic Store items such as Shirt of the Treant and Shirt of Chains and the Zombie Hide. I'm lucky Arn suggested we test the DR property on the cloak before investing in anything else, especially if I am told I shouldn't expect a refund!

Out of curiosity, how did you go about testing this?

Took turns wearing it then stabbing each other with daggers, shortswords and then compared to slashing weapons. Compared our combat log info. Calculated damage dealt, supposedly absorbed, and damage range and found inconsistencies. Wendi with a damage range of 1d4+1 dealt 5 hp damage for example, her max, with a further 5 damage "absorbed". Then 3 damage was dealt with 3 damage also listed as "absorbed" in the combat log, yet 8 damage total was deducted from my characters hit points.
