A formal fare-thee-well, good people of BG.

Unread post by DM Chant »

It has been announced already, but I'd like to officially state that I am retiring from BG, effective this weekend. I do not foresee returning as a player or a staff member, though this is primarily due to RL matters that have taken priority over my time (all good things!) and not for reasons tainted by negative feelings.

I want to thank the members of this community for making my tenure as HDM really quite calm in what was an otherwise tumultuous year for most of us. Thank you, too, to the staff members who worked insanely hard behind the scenes for this player base and thank you to the admins for keeping BG afloat as a server. I have truly appreciated being a part of it all.

I will miss the excellent stories we've crafted together, O fair BG peeps! Please treat one another well, value kindness, and give grace.

Chant

You did just crazy amounts of work. :D I think the only time I ever saw the "player requests" forum's case load down to one page or less was when you were spending countless hours managing all of them.

You'll be missed for that, certainly.

You'll also be missed for your great personality, your no-nonsense style of handling troublesome situations, and your general good cheer. Thanks for all you did here, Chant!

Best wishes to you DM Chant and what comes next for you. Always remember the good that came from this experience and forget the bad because the good is all that matters. You did a a huge amount for this server that players more likely will never know. I appreciate you and thank you for the time you personally chose to dedicate to a video game that barely matters.

May awesomeness follow you always!

It's hard to come up with fitting words after all the kind and true words already written, so I'll not even give it a try.

You've been an amazing HDM and I feel grateful for having worked with you.
Thank you for your time and dedication, and I wish you the best in that odd thing called RL. Should you ever wish to escape for a couple of hours, don't be a stranger ;-)

Chant, you have done so much for this server and our wonderful players and staff. It was an honor to work with you on the DM Team and to be DMed by you as a player. Your leadership, work ethnic, fair judgment, diligence, creativity, and administrative abilities are among the best, if not the best, the DM Team has ever had. You lead the DM Team and server through multiple difficult periods with intention, grace, and charisma. I cannot understate how much you did to push for, advocate for, and organize the dynamic player requests that make this server unique, despite having lacking DM resources to do so most of the time. You were a tremendous and amazing advocate for players on this server as such and I will never stop singing your praises. Further, how you handled many complicated and very taxing disciplinary matters as HDM without burning out still leaves me in awe.

You will be greatly missed both DMside and playerside my friend and your shoes cannot be filled, though we will do our best to honor your legacy. Wishing you and your family all the best irl and hopefully we’ll still see you in character playerside from time to time despite IRL developments.

Better late than never, I could have sworn I did so already..

Thank you for your time and efforts here on BG. I know thank yous are oft-forgotten in place of constant demands, complaints, and issues.. but anyone who has given the hours, days, and months of effort at making our server a fun time deserves a special thank you and respect earned.

I hope you find time in the future to return as a player, a DM, or maybe even a moderator? Lol.
