Enchanting!

How about a really simple impossible-to-exploit enchanting system that also opens up a lot of possibilities for what items a player can get.
Premise: An altar/machine in game left by a an ancient empire (Netheril, Imaskar, Illefarn, Aryvandaar, whatever) which can impart an enchantment to an item when a magical focus is provided.
Function: An item placed on the altar may receive the following bonus when altar is activated:
An item with one or less item property may receive either a +4 enchantment, +4 deflection or +4 armor bonus
An item with two or more item properties may receive a +3 bonus
An item with three or more properties may receive a +2 bonus
Limitations: May only be used once per calendar year per player. A use of the altar requires
an expensive and semi-rare ingredient (e.g blue diamond). a large amount of gold to simulate the magical components
Pros: Enchanting is egalitarian; the top few crafters can't monopolize enchanting and only do it for their friends
Cons: I can't think of any way this could be exploited or would result in power creep...can you guys?

I can't imagine how a +4 item with one property could be stronger than some of the stuff in the epic store
EDIT: Ok I think I found a really obvious flaw in my own idea, everyone could make +4 mithral full plate

+4 mithril full plate with SR.
+4 adamantium weapons.
+4 stat helm with +4 deflection bonus.
+4 con boots with +4 dodge bonus...
I think it gets out of hand quickly.
Even +3 with one property can get out of hand with the right combinations.

Yet, you maybe have greater chances of winning RL lottery before looting something like this on the RIG.

Yes.
But it becomes an issue of power creep.
At some point the pve content becomes too easy, so to make it interesting you rebalance around people having that kind of gear which hoses the people without it. Those people presumably being newer players.
Personally I’d love to see some kind of crafting/enchanting system but I don’t know what it would look like without throwing the whole system out of whack.

Mark these crafted items as artifact items and have them permanently bound to that char. and allow only one per char. (If RCR -> it's gone)

I’m going to keep playing this (broken) record:

Heheh ok point well taken. To be honest even if it were +3 enchant I'd be happy with that! I purposely left out +4 dodge, since it's much more powerful than +4 deflection.
A +3 enchant addable to weapons would just increase diversity so much, atm I guess all archers end up with the Bow of Wintermoon at level 30? I've never seen anything near as powerful in either store or RIG, and I'm sure the same is true for some other weapon types.
Thanks for feedback!
I don't think anything is gonna be implemented any time soon. I mean, this server has been craft-free for many years already so I'm sure the Devs have their reasons. Just floating some ideas!

First, I throw out ideas all the time that don’t pan out at all. So it’s all worth throwing out there to think about.
And I do think we need something along those lines. Steve does have in interesting idea. It’s hard though.
I wonder if maybe we have some community design thread where people throw out ideas for gear. It’s not hard to make stuff. What is hard is really trying to suss out how things can be used in a way or with a build that’s make them OP.
But keep the ideas coming!

An enchanting system hood be put in and experimented with without disturbing the power creep, and if the system itself worked and gave great enjoyment to the playerbase, it could be tailored up to provide greater options, more powerful options.
If one took my Magicsmith Workshop idea for example, begin by putting it in game with a hard cap of +2 of any additional aspect. And perhaps as well a cap of a 1-time removal and a 1-time addition, per Item. Definitely have the Item set to Plot, and it is fixed to the PC for Life. And then sit back and watch the swamp of gold coin get drained.
Baby steps are good!

The reality is there will always be power creep and there will always be power builders.
In the end personally im all for adding things that give people more options. If people want to power build and hack and slash at everything like this is an MMO i say let em. The difference in price between an item that is +3 and an item that is +4 is already stupid. We have people who hoard magical items or sell them for ridiculous amounts of gold.
Adding alternative ways to obtain higher tiered gear isn't a bad thing.
Personally ill stick to RP but it would be cool to have a crafter character who makes things for people other than wands scrolls and potions.

This seems like a good idea.
It also fits with the idea I proposed (that of ancient machinery/altar enchanting the item). Perhaps it takes a chunk of your soul as fuel to enchant the item.
Of course you'd need to be able to replace the item.
Say I found a bonus Wizard spell slot 6 ring, and wanted it to be my legendary item, so I add a +4 deflection bonus (burning 400K gold in the process). Then later I found a Wizard spell slot 7 ring... obviously I'd want to change my legendary item to that. So I destroy the first ring, using the same machine, and then spend another 400K to make a new one.
The 400K is just representing some kind of rare diamond, alchemical essence, star metal, whatever. But it has to be gold. If you make it diamonds or blue diamonds or whatever they'll just be hoarded and only 10% of players will be able to use the machine.

I think it is cool when a item/weapons can cast a spell /day
did you know this sword can cast Through the Eye of Thundera, it's able to grant clairvoyant visions with Sight Beyond Sight and i think it is a Adamantine

Definitely adamantine

True Seeing and Scrying once per day?

No mechanics that negatively alter or otherwise harm characters' souls.
