I was wondering if I don't want to level up and to just stay on my current level a bit longer (for RP reasons) will any XP I gain during this time be wasted? Do you still gain XP from fighting/RPing when the "Level Up!" sign is flashing.

You can toggle your XP on and off with the experience toggle feat. DM's are happy to remove as much XP as you want.

Ideally I'd like to keep getting xp rather than turning it off. I know from experience that levelling slows to a crawl later on so I don't wanna waste any xp.

No need for a DM there is an npc in the nexus that removes exp.

While you’ll gain XP when but leveling up, the amount of XP you gain is tied to the potential level of your toon, not the actual level. Meaning, though your toon might be lvl 5, if it has “banked” XP to be, say, level 7, you’ll gain XP in relation to the Areas CR as a level 7 toon.

I see, that's also very useful information thanks!
