Ice giant king - cold dmg bypass immunity

Hi,
Recently (last few weeks?) I have noticed that when the Ice Giant king uses a pulse attack, it bypasses cold immunity granted by Energy Immunity spell. This didn't use to happen as far as I can remember. And it has now killed me twice in group combat.
So, is this a bug or was there intentional change where the Ice Giant King was given Piercing Cold feat or some such? The whole group had cold immunity, only one person was dispelled and yet we all got hit with the pulse attack ability.

He's had Piercing Cold for as long as I can remember. That's some juicy hit though!

Yeah that juicy hit comes from me being shifted to Fire Giant, which I am always doing for bosses and never got hit before, just recently.

use strategy/thinking against him.
let the real melee/tank/high HP face him first.
any other low HP/non tank can come after he activates ice pulse.

I don't have anything to back up my claim here, but I seem to recall Fire Giants being vulnerable to Cold damage? So you would be 50% immune, ergo you should be hit just as likely as you were hit now. Again, I don't polymorph often, so it's just some piece of information I imagine someone else can confirm or deny.

I think Izzul is that they thought they WERE using strategy and thinking, thus the immunities and all

but were unaware the attack was piercing and just want to check on if it was supposed to be that way now.

As artemitavik says. If I knew it would bypass I would use different strategy, just making sure here it's supposed to be that way, if it is intentional all is good, just thought it might be bug since it didn't use to happen before...also 50% weakness gets rerwitten by immunity.

Is that specific for polymorph, or a recent change? Pretty sure that the fire vulnerability for Frost Mage did not get rewritten by fire immunity 8 years ago, and also still doesn't. Instead just combining to 50% immunity.
Could be wrong though.

Usually, immunity increases and decreases are added/substracted but Energy Immunity spell is a special snowflake - it provides 9999 DR instead of percentage immunity....

That must be it then. I distinctly remember RDD + FM only having 50% fire immunity rather than 100%.
