Counterspell(ing)

Unread post by Steve »

Is anyone out there in gameland actually using Counterspell, or the Counterspelling Mechanhcs, to any affect, positive or negative? Cheers.

Counterspelling has had a few fixes and updates (thanks Valefort!), and I haven't done a QC test of the mechanics since then, so take what I'm saying with a little grain of salt. My wizard has epic counterspell. I will say that until I got epic counterspell, I found CSing to be solely a negative. With epic counterspell I have found that there are moments that it shines through and clutchs victory from the claws of defeat. It is still limited and even its most useful moments get beat out in the long run PvE due to high monster density and in PvP because of wand use.

If it didnt take four feats, including an epic one, I would recommend every mage pick it up. With the heavy feat investment, I'd say take it if you like the niche appeal but it is not a necessary take.

With how easy it is to get mantle wands etc the feats are a waste of time sadly.

Laeria used to use them to good effect vs the Dracolich. Sorcerer with multiple disjunctions is fairly effective

However, she didn't engage in moving and or anything like that. I'm very afraid of moving in counterspell mode due to a bug a few years back to perma-stuck a character until reset.

But if you stay in place? Should work vs bosses

It is technically the same system, just Arch Mage allows to choose counterspelling Feats as Special Abilities??

I will use it on epic bosses who cast mords but that's about it.

When was it fixed? All I recall is it being a buggy mess as per what others said in the past who attempted to use it.
After years of trying to give others a chance to prove to me they can shape up here, I have run out of patience. The numbers of nwn2 overall dropping in the past few years have told me the path others truly want to take. Actions speak louder than words.

It's not worth the investment.

Its still a buggy mess. The main thing Valefort fixed was that Mordes CS used to just take in CL from base class CL. Now it includes archmage, redwizard, and blood mage extra CLs.
