chest bashing vs chimes of opening
I was wondering if it is worth it for toons without pick lock skills to buy chimes of opening?
Since it was introduced that bashing chests destroys items it might be that the value of the destroyed items exceed the costs of opening chimes.
Has anybody thought about it?

I know it's a very low chance to break items in chest with bashing. You see "crack open" message, you stop bashing immediately, never got broken items. You don't stop timely, 100 broken item chance. Chime is good for unbashable chest IIRC

I have to disagree with the very low chance with Eastern but I also have astronomical terrible luck when it comes to those. So a Chime is amazingly useful for my lack of lockpick characters. It's not too expensive you can rechage it until it breaks meaning at the least you get one more use of 50 charges before it breaks.
What I do is I use it all the way to 1 left, and recharge. On one of my chars I actually found a chime that was a lovely day, as then I had two chimes! Two! I would highly suggest it but my chests break an item more often than I can count. That is even when I am careful about it too.
Yes buy the chimes.

To be precise. IIRC, there is very low chance to break item by the fact you bash it instead of picking lock. But most times, if you stop hitting it right when you get message lock is broken, you don't break anything (i only once had items broke before lock message). If you smash chest once more, when lock is already broken, you totally will break 1 item inside.

Pretty sure a chime does nothing for these magic chests.
Also nothing wrong with breaking that spoon or empty stein occasionally

I have stopped it on the "as it's broken" and I have still had something break. Chime is a safer bet without a lockpicker, but again this is just my experience.EasternCheesE wrote: ↑Sat Jul 03, 2021 2:57 pm To be precise. The chest that cannot be bashed, cannot be chimed. Else the Knock spell would work. These chests are usually labeled as "Magical Chest".Theodore01 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 03, 2021 3:02 pmPretty sure a chime does nothing for these magic chests.

Thanks, I did not know you can recharge chimes!Habitu wrote: ↑Sat Jul 03, 2021 2:45 pm I have to disagree with the very low chance with Eastern but I also have astronomical terrible luck when it comes to those. I can also confirm that items break before the lock opens through bashing.

Yes, most things to my knowledge with "Charges" can be recharged at the stations.

Correct, but they are worthless against magical strong boxes. I prefer to use the Chime and recharge them regularly. Even if it's not true, I opine it's because the odds of getting something of value in a chest are statistically the same as getting a broken item. I would rather participate in my own success by reducing the odds of getting the broken item even if it is 1:100'ish.Theodore01 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 03, 2021 3:02 pmPretty sure a chime does nothing for these magic chests.

right, there is also the time value of searching for an epic item when one has no need for gold any longer.MrSmith wrote: ↑Sat Jul 03, 2021 5:58 pmCorrect, but they are worthless against magical strong boxes. Okay, so from what i hear, thing is: i mostly play rogues, so i don't actually need to bash chests.
And, on my only non-rogue PC, it seems that his flurry and dmg per flurry coincided ideally with chest-bashing, so i literally never break anything unless i stop attacking it too late
