BGTSCC Portrait Pack

Hello!

I've decided to finally start working on maintaining a portrait pack for BGTSCC. For now this will be a manual process, but we may have an automated one in the future.

To create a portrait for your character, you will need to find an image and crop it to 128x128 pixels, save it as a tga, uncompressed, at 24 bits. Please name it something like bg_fullcharactername_portrait.tga. Once you have a portrait, upload it using a file sharing service like imgur, Google drive, or Discord, and post the link here. I will add it to a portrait pack.

Once we have enough portraits to justify implementing it, I will update this thread with a zip file that people can download. Once the file is downloaded, you extra the portraits to your My Documents/Neverwinter Nights 2/Portraits folder. Alternatively, I may upload it formally to the server, but that will require some discussion and possible rules (as anything officially updated would allow just any random newbie to potentially select someone else's portrait in-game without knowing that is not appropriate).

On past servers I have done the cropping for people. This time around I'd prefer people handle their own portraits, or find someone else that can do the work for them. If you absolutely cannot find anyone to help, I can do it, but my server work load is already pretty high so I'd rather not be having to crop everyone's avatars for them.

Edit: In touch with the person making the automated program, that might actually come sooner rather than later. If so, elements of this post will change. In the meantime, though, you've got forewarning to start getting your portraits ready!

If you need help finding a good custom portrait for your character, I would recommend checking out Artbreeder. It's an online machine learning app that uses data from billions of images on the internet to allow users to create their own portraits in various art styles.

What program would you use to save an image as a tga file?

It's simplier to just use this site:

Photoshop, just for the opensource idealists (like me!).

Just touching base on this. Please retain a copy of your image on your computer as well as a backup. Media team is currently working with visivant to create an automated portrait system in the near future. When this system goes live, you’ll need to reupload your image via that programs database as well.

Previews, rules, and instruction will be provided when that time comes.

I will ask that the portrait of my old character Laitae (in my current avatar), is not under any circumstance uploaded. It was a commission I made of Angevere, and I'd like to keep it associated with my character.

I know this might seem like jumping the gun, and I'm not about to suggest anyone are likely to actually try having it uploaded, but I want to just be ahead of any potential for it, so I've said my piece from the start!

Thank you!

Commission by Jessica Pegoraro but I don't care if anyone else on the server wants to use it.

Idk, sounds like a fair thing to ask for. I'd like to do the same in regards to images made by Angevere pertaining to my character, Laerianna Amarillis, as well.

Is this an idea for Baldur's Gate?
I am delighted that this is coming, as you might tell from the old post I've quoted. :)

I understand that everyone else is free to pick any portrait that you've personally submitted. And I am fine with that. However, would one be allowed to submit a portait such as my avatar, which includes a small nameplate near the bottom? Or would this be too personalised? I am fine either way, as I could remove the portait's border and nameplate before submission.

The automated function we are working on will likely enable characters to have portraits that are restricted just to them. Stand by. We might also need portraits to be saved in jpg form instead of tga (the app will then convert it into tga).
