Multiclassing or 'splashing' required to take 3 Lvs minimum?

Thought I understood how the multiclassing worked as well as the exp penalty but then I saw something in the tutorial Lore section that made it sound like if we take a level in a base class, kit, or Prestige class then we are required to take it to level 3? :?
Can anyone confirm or explain if this is a thing & if so do kits count towards a base class minimum or require 3 in base & 3 in kit?

Also would Kits or Prestige classes count towards the x4 class split or no?

Your character must have at least 3 levels in every class their build plans to take when they reach character level 20, even if you are using a 100% RCR function. Prestige classes are included. So a Rogue 11/Assassin 6/Fighter 3 is valid, but a Rogue 11/Assassin 7/Fighter 2 would be invalid (Fighter only has 2 levels by level 20).

Also, because this is sometimes misunderstood: It means you cannot add new classes after level 20. Every class your eventual level 30 build contains, must have reached at least level 3 by the time your character is level 20.

Wait... so we aren't allowed to take the Kit or a Prestige once we hit Lv 20 either?? Ouch....
Can the '3rd' Lv of one class 'be' the class taken for Lv 20, so long as others already met?

Like If I roll with Rogue 1> Warlock 12> Master Alchemist 5
Can Lvs 19 & 20 meet the last two out of the 3 Rogue Lvs, or will I need to bump them to Lvs 18 & 19?

Exactly. At level 20 (so the final two can be at 19 and 20), any class you plan to take at all should have 3 levels taken. No new classes after 20. All classes with 3+ levels at 20.

OK thankyou for clarifying, I sorely misunderstood the whole 3d20 thing so you all saved me the headache from hitting 20 only to have character sent to the chopping block

I think it is important to clarify RE Kits.

Per my understanding and exiernce, Kits count as the class they are a kit for.
so a Hunter kit is Ranger levels.
having Ranger 1/Hunter 2 is technically just Ranger 3 with 2 of them being Hunter Kit levels which are applied differently.

I'd need someone with experience to clarify, but I'm pretty sure you can take Kits for any base-classes you have in epic levels, as a result.

It'll be pretty obvious when you look at your class breakdown on your character sheet.

GAH....
Totally spaced when I decided to roll a crafterLock instead of the combatLock I had filled out just waiting for name...
Forgot to go back thru and 'actually' take the Craft Alchemy skills & the likes...
Thought I could just 'overwrite' the character with same name with correct skills but it seems I'm gonna have to purge the alt 'then' reroll
