Was waylaid by a bunch of goblins and the first healing kit I used worked fine letting me select myself...
The 'second' kit, as soon as I clicked the kit on the toolbar my character not only started running around like a beheaded chicken taking attacks of opportunity but also healed the goblin it looked like, right before sending me to the Fugue?!?

Medkits can be used on anyone. So, when you click medkit and you have enemy targeted, you obviously try to heal enemy, that's how it works. Pay attention to your current target for your consumables or, alternatively, you can turn off auto-use on targeted creature in game options.

Ahh, cool there is a toggle option to prevent it, thanks!
