Weaponmastery Inconsistency (Change request)

Until recently, I only ever played archer fighters for some reason, and I was shocked to find out the weaponmastery requirements for melee weapons. While the requirement for archers is Weapon Focus and Weapon Specialization, for melee it's 12 fighter levels.
I obviously find it inconsistent and unfair for melee fighters, because most fighter builds have 12-14 fighter levels in them, making it incredibly hard to fit all the feats level 12 of a fighter lets you pick (Greater-Epic specialization and Weaponmastery), not talking about the fact that you get Weaponmastery in the deep epics, while archers get it on level 6 without wasting precious epic feat slots.
I don't ask for any nerfs, I just ask to lower all weaponmastery requirements to the Ranged level (that being just 2 feats and nothing else).
p.s. Linking the 3.5 requirements to support my arguments, there the requirements for melee weaponmastery are the same as for the ranged plus 8 bab, which would also be fair. Source: Player's Handbook II, page 81.
