Is there any information on how often the random triggered abilities tied to this feat comes into effect?

I don't have an exact number but from experience... it's fairly frequent. my guess it's a random chance at least once a round.

Every now and then, definitely not each round. Maybe it's related to attacks per round.

Does anybody with one of the many shapechanging/Polymorphing/shifting etc varieties can confirm that those NH extras pop, or not? On my own Shifter, this thread had me thinking that I’ve never seen a “pop” reported in the Combat Log.

Maybe the ground slam for bludgeoning attacks doesn’t work for unarmed?? Or, because different Shifter shapes have either bludgeoning or slashing dmg?

Help?

I use shifterlock and in cornugon shape, i occasionally do an AoE damage, but no "pop", yes. So, i believe, this part doesn't really work for unarmed shapes.

Do you think this just an oversight in coding, or actually intentional choice for polymorphing?

works fine for my warmacing ogre mage , i can see the message (onscreen, not in the combat log) quite regularly.

I believe the fact that northlander hewing works with unarmed shapes is an oversight in general. But it's been there so long that i see it as "feature" rather than a bug.

No, not that a polymorphed get extra STR-based dmg as per the basic bonus granted by the NH feat, but an oversight that the extra “effects” don’t pop with unarmed shapes.

And Theo confirmed that at least with weapon-bearing versions of shapes, IT DOES WORK, as in, the extra effects pop.

So, it does seem like an oversight, to me.

Northlander hewing is not supposed to work unarmed at all per design, that's what i know. But it does work, which is an oversight.

But, it's been working for unarmed for so long it is no longer an issue, but a feature to me. Something people see as default behaviour.

Never realized it was the case to be “disabled” if used Unarmed (or Creature in this case)! There is nothing in the BGTSCC Wiki description that states it’s only a weapon-based / usage feat.

Since there is no 3e reference for this Feat, it’s hard to compare to anything.

You misread a few of the posts. It works with the cornugon (hence occasional AoE damage), but IIRC, even in natural form, it won't explicitly tell you it triggered.

I believe I read it correctly: the extra DMG from STR is applied, but NOT one of the 3 extra effects, based on type of dmg (bludgeoning, piercing, slashing).

You're right and wrong, it seems. I overlooked the part where EC misinterpreted the results he was getting:

The very existence of AoE damage means the extra effect triggered. Cornugons have a slashing attack, IIRC, so they periodically do a whirlwind for guaranteed damage to all nearby targets. This is not reported in the combat log, except to the extent that the damage itself is logged.

Hmm. Than I may have seen this "effect" + dmg when using the Werewolf form, for Shifter. But nothing with Owlbear. And I'm going to soon try and see if Gelatinous Cube gets a Knockdown attempt.
