selectable Poisons from Poison Spell

Unread post by Kitunenotsume »

Hello all,

It has occured to me for some time that though the Poison spell [link] has a *ton* of options, it's incredibly impractical to use. By default, you always get the highest type of poison on the table you qualify for - which while useful for most DCs, often means you are stuck with "Black Adder Venom" (AKA Divine Poison). This works great (I guess) for melee combat, but detracts when used on consumables. The nature of how the spell works actually means that some poisons on the list are entirely unavailable simply due to both minimum CL and minimum casting stat. A level 30 caster has only 3 choices of poison 2 of which are Divine Poisons, and that choice is only available if the character can self-impose a casting stat penalty.

I would like to suggest, instead, that a choice of some form be offered when cast on a consumable, and permit selection of the nature of the poison used on the food or drink. Since the choices increase with spell DC and CL, a popup or dialog would be more appropriate than a radial, but I lack familiarity with the drawbacks or alternates to these choices.

It would also be great if we could stop Divine Poison getting labled as "Black Adder Venom", but that is entirely cosmetic.

Cheers,
Kit

Bump.

I am a bit curious as to the potential complexity of this suggestion (given the addition of a radial to other spells like Bestow Curse), having also noted that the variations in poison have different valid uses and targets.
Adding different names to the 4 Divine Poisons would also be a nice addition to give some variety and specificity to the strength of the upper tier poisons.
