Duelists and Shield AC

I know those shield rapiers in Roaringshore were made specifically because duelist is so underwhelming on a server with int bonus items that max at +4 and duelist can't use shields and still get the bonus, but would it be possible instead to allow duelists to get their Intelligence AC bonus when using light shields (1 AC variety of shield) only, or is it completely hard-coded? If it's possible it would not only be a less "clunky" solution but would make light shields valuable for people other than spellcasters seeking the elusive -5% asf ones.
If it IS hard coded and you can't give duelists their Int ac bonus with a light shield equipped, then you could work around it by having a script that gives any character a dodge bonus to AC = their INT bonus, to a max of their duelist lvl, as long as a light shield is equipped (again, not heavy or tower, light only. IE a buckler).
Also like to point out that those rapiers don't help halfling duelists much. They'd need to take monkey grip feat to use them finessed and get a -2 attack penalty on them for doing so. Those rapiers really, in terms of fairness to small races, should be daggers if neither of the two options above are feasible. Call it a "Main Gauche", maybe? If you made them short swords then medium sized duelists could wield it in the off hand and small races could not without penalty, so that would also be not cool, fairness wise.
