Much of Maevyn’s early life was spent with her Gur Caravan. As there isn’t much to do while travelling the Western Heartlands, she would often practice various instruments and loved to read. Through the time spent, she was able to study and learn Celestial, Draconic and Elven, though her dialect is just ever so slightly off. She would often be the designated negotiator with her father when it came to bartering deals with the small towns and hamlets they travelled through, making her common very strong.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Physical Description:
If one were to pass Maevyn Edgar on the roadside, they might be struck by her calming presence and unmistakable aura of quiet power. Standing at 5’3”, her slender yet toned frame moves with a bard’s grace, every step falling in tune with an unheard melody. Her ash blonde hair, falls in soft, unruly waves that frame her face when not worn in intricate braids adorned with silver charms.
Her sharp, expressive grey eyes would catch and hold the gaze of a passerby for a fleeting moment, should they look. Her optics would seem to see through facades, calm yet piercing, a silent knowing and resolve held within. Her olive-toned skin is smooth, kissed by the sun from many years of her travels, and faintly dusted with freckles. Adorning her face, above and below her right eye is an intricate moon flower tattoo with delicate leaves and blossoms.
Her attire is both practical and elegant: flowing, travel-worn garments in muted blues and silvers, accentuated with simple embroidery with moon-themed patterns. A crescent-shaped silver amulet rests at her throat, glowing faintly in the dimmest light. A sturdy yet ornate mace hangs at her side, its silver head engraved with lunar symbols, and a polished shield rests securely on her back. Slung over one shoulder is a slender case, likely holding a violin, the edges of the wood just visible through its clasp. She would have various pouches and pockets seemingly stuffed with trinkets and tools for different purposes. Her tarot cards hang securely bound at her hip along with an intricate hand carved wooden effigy of Selûne holding a moon.
She would typically be seen in good health and spirits offering a wide smile to most that cross her path.
Maevyn’s Mother, Persephone, was not originally of the Gur but an outsider who acclimated into the community, eventually marrying her father. Persephone carried traits uncommon among the Gur having white hair and deep grey optics. It was rumored that Persephone hailed from a northern region but never confirmed throughout her lifetime as her mother never spoke of what came before her time with the Gur.
Psychological:
Maevyn is a fierce believer in personal freedom and living authentically. She holds the value of words in high regard knowing that the truth matters above all else. Having experienced the deep loss of exile from her people, she can emphasize easily with any that have been cast aside or constrained by oppressive forces. For her, faith is not about rigid dogma, it’s about embracing the ebb and flow of life and finding hope in the darkness. She always will seek to help others navigate their own paths, hopefully in the light.
Being banished from the Gur left a deep unspoken scar that very few will get to see or hear her talk about. She sometimes struggles with her own feelings of inadequacy and a deep feeling of imposter syndrome. This is overall masked with a carefree demeanor and a warm, wide smile. Being saved from the despair of her loss, she does bear a renewed sense of purpose and belief in second chances. It left her with a desire to offer the same hope and guidance to those that find themselves treading through darkness. She believes with her whole heart in the goodness in everyone. She does struggle to find the line of when the hope is undeserved or when the line is crossed that one cannot return from.
Being a former Gur left her with habits and rituals that she will always carry with her. She sees her divinations through card readings as a way to carry on her peoples practices and a way to honor her heritage and faith. She is a wanderer at heart and often has a hard time staying in one place for too long. She will typically use magical means to travel around quickly, avoiding people sometimes for quiet reprieve and reflection.
Maevyn’s psychological outlook is a balance between the light of hope and the shadows of her past. She is a dreamer, protector, and a restless wanderer who draws strength from her faith and belief in others, even if she does struggle to overcome her own inner demons. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
