From the diary of Torgrimm, Marpenoth in the Year of the Saddle:
"This is the beginning of the chronicles of my journey to Baldurs´s Gate. The writer is Togrimm, Son of Torgar, Son of Grimmtasch, Son of Bodag, ..."
(The list goes on and enumerates a decent number of ancestors, until the author suddenly stops and continues after a few blank linkes.)
"This journey is taken in order to honor the oath made by my grandfather Grimmtasch, who was the first to leave the mines of our ancestors and settle down in a village in the human lands under the rule of the Kings residing in Baldur´s Gate (above Kings a small word "Dukes" is written).
The oath was taught me to know by heart, but I write it down in case the tradition gets lost: "I, Grimmtasch, Son of Bodag, swear by the honor of my clan and the axe of Clangeddin, that in gratitude for the acceptance and protection of my clan granted I myself, my sons and my grandsons shall pledge loyality and serve the Kings of Baldur´s Gate from now on and thereafter."
78 years have passed since then. Now I, Trogrimm, Son of Torgar am on my way to Baldur´s Gate to live up to this promise."
