Low level events (ooc)

Greetings fellow underdarkians,

I plan to run many events for low levels, probably 1 or 2 for every new PC I see.

The first, which I will attempt to offer ever new character, will help me assess how comfortable they are playing IC down here, and whether they've settled on a reasonable concept yet.

This type will generally involve at least one NPC (such as a drow commoner, a wizard, Sshamathian guard, or other traveler) for me to dialog with--and maybe a few hostile spawns or some other small happenstance to get their attention.

If I see any problems or lacks with what they're doing, I'll try to offer some gentle OOC advice and lore explanations to set them down the right path. Otherwise--if they seem to know what they are about--I will offer a nice pat on the back ; )

The second type of event for each PC, which may be trickier to arrange, will probably happen after I've observed them for a few more days. It will attempt to provide something foundational that helps steer character development in a direction that can offer future interesting opportunities.

Presenting IC information about player guilds will be one of my go-to choices for this, I'm thinking, as I am keenly aware that plenty (most?) of the really fun stuff happens there and without a DM around. At least, that's generally been my own experience.

In the case of Lolthites, this is easy--so easy that I may let most people figure it out for themselves. House standards tend to be especially simple: "Do you profess to follow Lolth? ...Will you obey her priestesses without question? ...Great! Let's get you suited up."

I am going to need guidance for other guilds, as they seem to have more complicated standards and I'm afraid I don't know so much about how to get low levels involved with them. So I'm hoping for counsel here: if existing and potential new guild leaders or other experienced members could post below or contact me directly with their interests, that will be most helpful.

(Word of advice to guild planners: The more stringent your entry requirements, the more difficult it will be to get players involved with you. If for example one of your requirements is level 10 for full membership, it would probably be wise to accept lower level prospectives and initiates on a provisional/trial/intern basis, and have them grow to full membership)

I hope to get something going for everyone, but need y'all to be proactive about telling me what you need and want. Otherwise...... well you are welcome to carry on by yourselves, but then I don't want to hear complaints about preferential treatment. I shall try to be open to everyone, but a psion I am not.

PS for those wondering about mid-to-higher level events, these are more complicated on several levels. Give me a month or two to plan and get comfortable with the client; things will go more smoothly that way.
