Pantheons outside Faerun during the Time of Troubles

So I thought other pantheons might not have been affected by the Time of Troubles, since the FRCS 3E at page 264 makes it sound pretty Faerun-centered. Also, the incident that sparked the ToT happened in Faerun, so makes sense that it would only affect the Faerunian pantheon, amirite?

Well, another player (who has asked to be anonymous) sent me this tweet from Ed Greenwood: https://twitter.com/TheEdVerse/status/1 ... 6087707650

Hi Mr Greenwood! A question about the Time of Troubles. Did Ao cast down Kara-Tur and Maztica Pantheon from the heavens during the ToT?

Oh, yes. However, the avatars of most of the deities from those pantheons hid or saw to personal business on Toril during the ToT, keeping much lower public profiles than those we read about in the "Avatar Trilogy."

Who knew! I figured it would be good to post this on the forums, since it's probably relevant to at least a few characters. And this way, the DMs can confirm or deny that it applies to the server.

Anyways, have fun with the deicides, you rascally scallywags!

What about the elemental lords? They aren't technically gods, right?

Those four are noted as being completely MIA during the ToT, not answering any prayers much like all the other gods, but also no sign of them on the Prime.

I haven't found anything yet about whether they granted powers to their followers. However, if they DID grant powers to their followers during the ToT, I am sure that would have been a big deal (like how everyone knew Helm could still grant powers to his followers). Since there is no mention of the elemental lords' followers being able to cast spells, I assume prayers weren't being granted.

Also, if casting is restricted for followers of the elemental lords on the server right now, I guess that pretty much confirms it for server lore purposes.

Either way, they were definitely MIA during the ToT, as AsuraKing noted.

1. FRC 2e described ToT as casting down all gods, therefore we treat it as such. Ao does not play with specifics, which he proved by blinding Tyr for him telling Ao that his group punishment is unjust.

2. The Elemental Lords are gods. 4th edition turns them into “primodials” and makes up this entire weird story about the creation of Realmspace, war between primodials and gods as well as the origin of gods. But before 4e, they are gods just like others. They simply personify the core elemental forces. We don’t follow 4e lore whatsoever, barring very few cases of filling the blank pages of some setting lore where appropriate. Otherwise, if it contradicts 3.5 and prior editions, we default to those instead.

3. Indeed, they weren’t seen in the realms’ canon timeline. Neither was Deneir, Corellon, Moradin, Yondalla and many more. Simply because mortals never found them does not mean they weren’t cast down as well. What they were doing during ToT is the question, I think!

Thanks for the confirmation! Quite relevant and helpful to know for a few of my characters.
