The idea or the powerbuild

I was wondering, is everyobdy playing optimized builds to be able to steam roll most of the content?
I want to make an alt that will be mostly rp focused, without real gameplay power and if I will be alone with concepts like that. ;)

Absolutely not everyone. Every single one of my chars (except shifter, because shifters are shifters) would be considered "weak". In fact, when looking at my builds, the reaction is usually "why are you doing that to yourself". I take what looks cool and what makes sense for the character, I do not look at numbers.

However, you can't expect to solo content if you dont have a good build. If you're okay with that (ie if you only intend on doing PvE with other ppl and/or no PvE at all), you're good.

I just RCRed one of my characters into a build that is purely RP based and it's incapable of doing dungeons.

I'll let that be my answer!

One can do both, simultaneously.

Roleplay has absolutely nothing to do with powerbuilding. You either want to roleplay, or not

A lot of my builds evoke reactions similar to what Renshouj mentioned below: "Why are you doing this to yourself?"

That said, I generally tend to powerbuild within the confines of my concepts, as a deliberate counterbalance to the fact that my concepts tend to require mechanically terrible decisions. It still comes out markedly worse than an unrestricted powerbuild (see some of Izzul or Nathaniel's builds, for instance), but at least it's not as prone to making me want to quit the server in frustration. (The fact that I straight-up refuse to solo content most of the time has also helped... though it comes at the cost of limiting my ability to do anything besides lying on random benches.)

I play a middling combat build that shines in particular circumstances. It's by no means a powerbuild, but it's a fun build that allows me mechanical competence in most circumstances, and roleplay avenues. Find a build that does something well, and gets in your desired roleplay!

Yup. It's a lot about what YOU prioritize. Some people build first and make a concept around it after. Some people (this is where I personally fit) find a concept first, and build after. Some do a mix of the two, with a loose concept that can be changed to better fit something.

The first one is where powerbuilders often fit in.

Good to know I'm not te only one not chasing after the meta builds. I always liked to make my characters excel in one area while lacking on others. These flaws made it more belivable for me which in turn made it more interested to play.

My character has no offensive spells and cannot physically kill anything (at best temporarily incapacitate).
That said, not being able to roflstomp all content doesn't mean useless. I mostly focused on lore skills and other related skills, plus buffs and utility spells. You just need to find your niche of expertise and focus on that.

The true powerbuild are the characters that can gain influence enough to beat the best warriors without even lifting a finger. 8-)

But in seriousness, I personally build via trying to make the build fit my character RP concept. I dont really care for the "grind" so I never build for it, I build for an RP concept even if it means I'll be shooting myself in the foot "power" wise.
