Year 1358, fifth of Nightal (Dec 5th 2022)
I was at the Temple of Torm having been having a very long conversation on several matters with Brother Simon when strange things started happening, first the chairs randomly squeaking, Brother Simons chair leg fell off, then the door to the balcony over the Temple opened on its own. When I went to investigate I noticed a man below seeking help. When I went down below I was greeted with nothing short of disgust for being a tiefling. He demanded to speak to another at which Brother Simon took the matter and I returned upstairs with Lylan.
Brother Simon eventually returned and stated that the man was dealing with a hostage exchange and needed help. Brother Simon asked for us to assist and of course I was more then willing as was Lylan. As we began to prep Volstag peered in and Lylan asked him to assist as well which he agreed. When we went downstairs and outside Brother Simon revealed the man had gone to get his coin for the exchange and when he returned he seemed rather impatient, rude and dismissive of us, leading to suspicions of it being more of a trap then a hostage situation given the man and his family was believed to be former Black Hand members.
We persisted ignoring his insults against me and Volstag and eventually took a wagon to the location which appeared to be a long abandoned Temple of Tyr. As we approached the gate a noose lowered around Lylans neck though she managed to slip free with some work, almost immediately after Volstag lunged Olav and punched him, when the man went down like a sack of bricks I went over to check on him, Volstags punch had been hard enough to break the mans neck, killing him instantly. I carefully lifted the man and moved him to the side covering him with a cloak and leaving him to rest.
Stepping inside we were soon greeted with several undead knights, two flesh golems and a necromancer who immediately congratulated Olav, then realizing he wasn't with us demanded to know where he was. When it was revealed he had suffered an unfortunate incident, he shrugged it off, ordering one of the golems to go kill the child, immediately causing me to react and lunge the golem and Lylan to go for the necromancer. Soon all were dead around us but the place started to give. Shaking and trembling as we began to organize but could not find said child anywhere which is when Jak made himself visible, no one knowing at the time that while heading to the wagon, I had quietly asked Jak to tag along in the shadows.
With a bit of work Jak was able to slip into a crevice between some fallen boulders that led into what I assume was another room, finding the mother of said child and eventually the child as well and with Brother SImons help, managed to get them both out of there. As soon as they were on our side, I grabbed the girl up and bolted for the door. We only all barely got out before the entire building collapsed on us. Once outside Lylan took care of the girl as I showed the remains of Olav to the mother who reasonably fully broke down. Once she was calm enough to move, I handed her sixty thousand gold in trade bars and quietly advised her to take her daughter and move somewhere peaceful, away from this pain and loss. She stood and hugged me thanking me, before we moved to the caravan where she got inside with her daughter.
For a moment I noticed Jak walk off and seemed to talk at something, though he never actually disclosed what it was before we headed back to the wagon. Once back in Baulders Gate safely the mother revealed she was taking her daughter to Beregost, with the sixty thousand in trade bars she should get on fine enough. From there everyone separated to rest.
