Direct route between Soubar and Fields of the Dead/ Winding Water
Right now the shortest way to get from Soubar to Fields of the Dead is to talk to the wagonman in Soubar (server 2) to go to Roaringshore (server 1) then immediately use the compass transition to Fields of the Dead (server 2). I think we could do better by adding a dialog option to Bart the Wagonman.
When you ask if he's going to the coast soon, add a new dialog option: "Can you drop me off at the Fields of the Dead on your way?" to which he will respond "Alright, it's your funeral, but I'm not charging you less and I don't stop there, so you will have to jump off the moving cart. 50 gold. In advance. "
If you agree, then you get transitioned straight to Fields of the Dead (same arrival point as if you had come from Roaringshore) without going to server 1, and you roll a reflex save with a moderate DC to avoid taking 1d4 damage from jumping off the moving cart.
There will be no direct route back. You're not jumping onto a moving cart and he won't just hang out in such a dangerous place, BUT I would suggest a one-way boat from Winding Water to the Boarskyre Bridge.

Might make more sense to just add Winding Water to the list of boat destinations in the first place.

It already is, from Boareskyr, IIRC.
As for the issue, we're planning on moving Roaringshore to s2 eventually so players don't need to go through two server transitions unnecessarily.

Last time I checked it wasn't. Just Greypeaks and Kraak Helzack
[edit] just checked, Nobby the Boatman will only take you to Kraak Helzak. If you ask for greypeaks he says he doesn't do that any more because he doesn't understand how people can row upstream that far. Well, I do understand. The current of large river is only fast in the middle. It's much slower on the sides because it's much shallower on the sides and contains grasses and reeds that slow down the current. That's how people have been traveling in both directions on the Mississippi River for as long as there have been people living near it. Don't take my word for it, though. Google it. That's what Google is for. *awaits endorsement check from Google*
So anyway, no. You cannot take a boat to or from Winding Water.

Re: Direct route between Soubar and Fields of the Dead/ Winding Water
I recall discussion a couple years back when the House of Spades was advocating a similar water-ferry, that IIRC the Winding Waters river apparently has a waterfall or rock or something between Boaresky Bridge and the town at the delta. (I'm pretty sure the Trollclaws is the demonstration of why you can't get a boat through).
In regards to adding Winding Waters to the boat network, I turned up this:

Opinions may have changed since, but I suspect that the ToT didn't change geography too much in the area (beyond poisoning the river).

Hmm... well, it doesn't actually make sense for Winding Water to be so isolated either. It doesn't have enough resources to feed the NPCs there. They can't live on fish alone.Kitunenotsume wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 12:29 pm I recall discussion a couple years back when the House of Spades was advocating a similar water-ferry, that IIRC the Winding Waters river apparently has a waterfall or rock or something between Boaresky Bridge and the town at the delta. Bhaal's exploding corpse cleared the waterway in an unexpected boon to river based trade. Huzzah.

Nah, that was between Winding Water and the sea. Hence why you couldn't have eg a ship route between BG and Winding Water. But there's no reason you shouldn't be able to go down from Boareskyr.Kitunenotsume wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 12:29 pm I recall discussion a couple years back when the House of Spades was advocating a similar water-ferry, that IIRC the Winding Waters river apparently has a waterfall or rock or something between Boaresky Bridge and the town at the delta.
