Currently there are 4 different options for hiding from the PC Scry tool:


The problem is that the 'All' option is really pulling double duty: It both serves as an option to hide your Character Name, and it also toggles the other three options. The consequence of this is that you can't un-hide your Character Name without also un-hiding your Player Name, Area, and Level.

I would suggest simply replacing the 'All' option with a 'Character Name' option, so that players have finer control here. You could even keep it so that hiding your Character Name automatically checks the other three options, so that you don't have random information up there not tied to a character. The crucial difference would be that unchecking 'Character Name' would not also reveal Player Name, Area, and Level.

I plan to do some Scry maintenance soon, so I can take a look.

I'm having a little trouble following. The "All" button hides the player's entire row from the Scry. Is the issue that un-hiding your row un-checks the other three boxes in the UI, instead of remembering your settings, thus briefly exposing some information you might want to keep private?

Yes, that is the issue. There is no way to un-hide just your character's name, without also un-hiding the rest of it.

Since we're talking about Scrying, it's worth pointing out that the whole system is OOC and so often it leads to metagaming. I had people literally use scry to spy on me IC. Not cool. Can't we just get rid of this system?

It is worth keeping in mind that the "Hide All from Scry" would not prevent people on the same server from reading either your player name or character name from the Player List.
This functionality is effectively required to permits tells to work, and would be unwise to remove. The pertinent information is already available from the game engine itself, but the Scry widget does allow for cross-server convenience and more granular information release.
