Legal Questions
Relative to the Crimson Spice Crisis

The wide distribution of the Crimson Spice, and the rumors regarding the more discreet Golden Augry, induce legal considerations around conflicting aspects of the administration of the law. Law, by essence, governs a defined society's set of rules. They have a protective virtue and share the common goal to keep an orderly organization. In Baldur's Gate, as servitude is prohibited, these laws and rules are accepted willingly. As such, those questions can be declined in a series of dilemmas:



Status of Victim & Incrimination as Offender
In many ways, victims who fall prey to a dark network that seals their involvement in drug use and are thus legally considered as offenders can raise legal issues:

~ How can those who would be condemned for their crimes and who are also victims be supported enough to find rehabilitation and healing, from a legal perspective? Can protection, healing and rehabilitation find support in law?



Non-consent & Forceful Complicity to Crime
In many ways, people who are forced to partake in a crime can be themselves as damaged as the victims, in different aspects. This might raise legal issues:

Temporary or permanent refusal of contact with adults, homeless children, runaway children

The specificity of street children resides in their shared unwillingness to deal with adults. By choice, lack of trust, fear, anger, rage, or for other reasons, their choice to remain in the street counters the many endeavors striving to secure them and help them grow in a stable environment. This leads adults to face a dead end:
~ By forcing children to remain within the orphanage or other places of care, their hatred and distrust of adults only grow. This may result in running away from any approach of care, harming other children, or suicide attempts out of desperation at feeling unheard or being forced into an inescapable reality. This often results in harmful situations for the children themselves.
~ By leaving the children in the street, the danger and pressure around them only grow. The nature of living in the street, homelessness, and vagrancy may burden them further in unstable environments, sometimes leading them to face authorities. This also results in many harms for children.

The Shrine of the Suffering is dedicated to mend these specific circumstances, alongside healing, with a holistic approach :

~ Nurturing trust in caring relationships with the children. This may include showing understanding, discussing their choices, helping them when they appear in need, and guiding them step by step towards places of care so they can reconnect with adults. Most importantly, remaining truthful, not deceiving, and not using lies or subterfuge against them is primordial.
In these endeavors, finding the Sisters of the Shrine of the Suffering when street children are involved in dangerous situations may help shed light on their particular situation or guide them to safety in ways that would not damage them or lead them to hatred or suicide.

~ Preparing beds and food every day for children who might need to spend time within the orphanage, so they can always be welcome. Discussing their reasons for running away or living in the street away from adults is also a priority, so they may express them and identify the dangers.
In these endeavors, donations are welcome.

~ Nurturing a secure environment within society to help them grow serenely. Patrols, social progress, protection, and vigilance may maintain such an environment.

Infants
Babies and young children up to 2 years old

The struggles of infants, in addition to all the trauma noted above, may reside in two major aspects. Infants suffering from a long and abusive pregnancy involving violence, toxification, severe anxiety, and inner or outer trauma upon the mother may develop severe disabilities or endure several burdens inherited from birth. Other infants may have been undesired, unwanted, or born from abusive or transactional relationships. For them, the will to live may be altered, and they might refuse healing or nutrition, blending with the only fragment of identity they can relate to: being unwanted in this world. They thus become one with the stigmata of suffering, in need of every fragment of care to reignite a will to live in a secure and tender environment.

For them, monetary donations, herbs, and toys are welcome. Increased security and patrols can be discussed with Guardian Nathan Goldenmane.
