True Form / Reveal Thyself

Unread post by Louvaine »

True Form and Reveal Thyself both require d20+CL (capped at 15) check to dispel a Polymorph (and presumably Shapeshift, Animal form, etc) spells, making it impossible to affect CL of 25 or above. I'm not sure if there is a Will save included, since the text only mentions 'against its will'.

There is an arguable use against shapeshifters, and that requires caster to make SR check and target to make a Will save, giving plenty chance for failure in an already niche circumstance.

Have you seen it used effectively? Am I missing something or are these spells a waste of time? Seems to be the cap at 15 CL holds it back a lot. It'd otherwise be comparable to Banishment. SR check, Will save. That being said, there's nothing stopping another cast of Polymorph to follow, it seems. Druids that failed the save(s) are unable to transform, but gishes seem to just be slowed down, even if the action economy is on the side of caster as polymorphing costs 2 rounds on BG.

I believe, the problem is in source:
https://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/t/true-form/

Generally, it's Pathfinder spell and it doesn't exist in 3.5e srd.
I agree, this spell should get a buff because, way more than once, i heard and discussed with fellow players that it's just utterly useless:
If once can hit true form with their DC, it means they'd better just Bigby enemy for way more reliable result. And if they cannot, then this spell is useless.

Basically, it doesn't have its niche current server paradigm and i'd love to lift "+15" limitation if general consensus says it's okay to do so.
