Zelvan Chien - Character Background Story

Unread post by nalenjaard »

In the bustling port city of Baldur's Gate, amidst the labyrinthine streets and bustling markets, lived a young mage named Zelvan. From a young age, Zelvan showed a keen aptitude for magic, often delighting his foster parents and bewildering peers with his innate talent for manipulating the Weave.

Raised in a modest home within the Lower City, Zelvan`s parents were merchants who dealt in exotic goods from distant lands. Their travels sparked his curiosity about the world beyond Baldur's Gate, but it was his fascination with the arcane that truly captured his imagination. At the age of ten, Zelvan`s latent magical abilities manifested during an incident at the local marketplace, where he unwittingly levitated a fruit stall to reach a tempting bunch of grapes. The spectacle drew the attention of a passing wizard named Master Thalos, who sensed the raw potential in the young boy.

Master Thalos, a sage of the High House of Sorcery in Baldur's Gate, took him under his wing as his apprentice. Under his tutelage, Zelvans days were filled with rigorous study of spellcraft, arcane theory, and the history of magic in the Forgotten Realms. The High House of Sorcery, nestled in the Upper City, became his new home—a place of towering spires, echoing libraries, and whispering corridors filled with the secrets of ages past.

Despite his immersion in the world of magic, Zelvan faced challenges that tested his resolve on many occasions as the magic in him was in his veins and the use of the arcane in any other ways seemed often to be a waste of time.

Now at his 18th birthday and with his degree in arcane arts in his pocket, there comes the time to spread his wings and learn how to fly, and experience what it means to be a Sorceror/Wizard/Mage or whatever he is.
