Entry One

"I was done,... done with delivery work. I had enough running around the city I grew up in. I work too hard breaking my back for scraps and a jobs that I cant even be proud of. No one respects it. This city has failed. It took thieves and humble clergy to save our city from spice. Even now our surrounding waters is polluted, fish are dangerous to consume, and they let the culprit escape. Rumors of people going missing, vampires crawling under our city streets, laws being neglected and ignored. I had enough. If I'm going to callous my hands, and break my back I'm at the very least will get respected for it.

And I know just how to do that. And while I do it, I'll make those corrupted cower in their rat holes, and those would be hero's remember they are not above the law. Justice? The only justice criminals need is to rot in prison or feel the end of a noose. Mercy? No, there will be none by me. If people are going to disrespect the law and I catch them, they will find themselves arrested. And those tieflings..those fiends from what ever hells they are from...I will watch them closely. If they so much as break curfew they will spend the night in a cell. If I get recruited, it will be the mark of the day laws will begins to stop being ignored. For now..Long live Baldur's."

Entry Two

Another day gone by but still patiently waiting on one of the officers to get back to me. Been spending my time walking around the Upper city, meeting some of the locals and being more familiar with the areas. Had a drink with Bellen from the Flaming Fist. He wasn't much for talking, I can relate. Guess the alcohol was getting to me, before I knew it I was going on and on about things in the city that upsets me. Like how some of these officers on patrols, I can see corruption on some of their faces. Won't be surprise their being paid off. Just like some of these nobles. I'm no fool. There probably a whole of them all with dirty hands while they only show the clean smiles. Cant say much for those in the Lower City, I think each and everyone of them is just scum. The common folks already feel the end of days is nigh upon us.

Image

Been hearing talks of some man from Ulgoths Beard attacking the City Watch. That's just the stuff I've been talking about. Creature or not people dont have respect for the law. If I ever get the chance, I'm going to make that change, even if I have to do it by arresting one criminal at a time.

Entry Three

Needed to write down the experience I had today. Hmph, one of the nobles outside looked distressed. Decided since I wasn't doing anything, I'd go see if she needed any help. Wasn't much of a greeting, the woman was ranting about some thief had stole her amulet. Thinking the right to do was to help the woman, but she surely had a spiteful mouth on her. Didn't have a hint of respect for someone going out of their way to offer assistance. That's what I have been talking about, the lack of respect even from the nobles. They sit too tall on their high horse and look down at everyone else that don't jingle when they walk.

Image

I found the little thief though. He pretty well known in the docks. He didn't look like a criminal so I assumed the boy was just hungry. I offered the boy a deal to give me the amulet and I'll pass him some coins so he can go get something to eat. I returned to the noble woman given back her stolen amulet, and she still couldn't form the words thank you . Pissed me off but I know my place. But if things go my way, I'll be sure to run into her again. And next time that conversation is going to be a whole lot different, with everyone in the city, they will come to learn to respect authority.

Entry Four

Been spending the past two nights walking around the city, mapping it in my head. If I get the job, I will need to know my routes and be more familiar with other common folks, shop owners and the like. Ran into a Priestess of Illmater. Probably the only person I've met recently with respect. She was humble, but that goes with just about all the priestess's from that temple. Dont see why they stay in the slums of all place. Nothing but rats and criminals and the lowest breed the world could offer over there. Coins was getting low so I decided to seek out some delivery work once again. Since the job required going around the city I figured why not. Filled my coin purse some, would still be better on a payroll, but nothing comes good sitting around just waiting for a blessing. Met a man with a problem of his merchant goods stolen. After some investigating, I found a bandit hideout in the North farms. Yeah, those bandits surely had the goods. Was quite a good many of those back stabbing criminals, but I called out the challenge, and my sword hit pure and true just like the silver material it's made of. Hurt them plenty, few others ran off. But I got the stolen goods and returned them to the owner. One dwarf tried to offer me work to head to the Cloakwood mines to gather some ore for him. I declined. I rather focus with things within the walls of the city. I wont be caring for anything beyond Baldur's and her surrounding lands. If it isn't Duchal lands, let those name seeking adventurers deal with it.

Image

Been hearing rumors however about some thief caught or died or something. Dont know much of the details but in my opinion, good. Another rat off the streets, filthy low life scum cant even be "man" enough to work like proper folks. Heard some cry about tieflings. City's own fault allowing them demon spawns into our walls. Last I knew devils had horns, so why trust them? City surely need some cleaning. Criminals, tieflings, heros that think their above the law, all them corrupted nobles, the whole lot of them. I'll show them all in due time that the law is to be respected and upheld, and that no one is above it. Guess I might as well spend the next day studying all the laws of the city. Just hope a recruiter comes by, cause I'm not interested in joining some religious frantic church

The Message

"Hey Brows!" *The man heads over to the bar before retiring to his room* "Something happening?" "Ye got a message to report to the Citadel in two days." "Seriously?" *The bartender scowl* "Yeah seriously , what ye think I'm one of those lying degenerates from the lower city? Hmph!" *The man turns away in silence but excitement and anxiety appeared on his face, for he was happy he was getting the interview, but that doesn't get his foot in the door just yet. * "Hey Brows" *He glances back* "Yes sir?" *The bartender was cleaning a tankard starting at Brows with a straight face before giving a smile* "Good luck lad, hope you get the job, you look the type that means business." *Norin gave a slow nod * "Much appreciated Sir."

Image

*The man headed towards his rented room in the Helm and Cloak tavern. He was anxious, even wish the interview was tomorrow. So many times in the recent days he held the vision, the vision to enforce and uphold the laws of the City. The vision of walking around in a uniform. The uniform of the City Watch. He looks at his newly purchased journal hoping that soon the pages will be filled with the events and day to day reports of his watch.*

Entry Five

Stepped outside today because I was feeling anxious. Keep looking around the street towards the Citadel. One more day for my interview. Don't think I had this level of anxiety before. Met more folks however when I was standing outside focused on the Citadel. A Knight name Vhaan, a paladin of Tyr. Seemed honorable, didn't happen to see any tell tale signs of a corrupted man. But I wont rule him out just yet. Heard stories before about fallen paladins. I'm sure I will be running into him more since his Temple is right down the street. Wasn't long before another woman came around showing us a flyer of some show hosted by the Mask Theater over by the Elfsong. I said I had something important to do . Which was true since I had mean my interview. For me that's what's important than any party. That woman that was showing the flyers surely didn't look like one of the nobles. I notice the scar on her face. Her clothing look like she often travels distances. Not like the noblewoman that soon walked over. Didn't seem to have a corrupted bone on her body. Worse a fancy dress. Claim to be from Waterdeep. Yeah surely a noble. Likely never experienced a single struggle in her life. Seemed respectful tho. Found her question strange about if I will be seeking fatherhood. Wasnt sure how to answer that at first, since that surely wasn't on my mind. But I was quite surprised on my response. Told her no man had no business seeking fatherhood unless he's a proper man with a proper job. I think she was merely sizing me up trying to determine if I will actually be of some help around the upper city. But I was appraising her as well trying to find if there was any hint of corruption in her soul. Corruption is the most pervasive and pernicious source of evil in public institutions. People's distrust of public organizations is so profound that they have little faith in their ability to collaborate with them and achieve sustainable development objectives.

Image

*On the back of the current page that was filling with the days entry, he wrote a couple of names with some notations*

"Vhaan de Luca, Sword of Tyr, dutiful" ...Temple of Tyr...Fallen. Possibility
"Melek, Flyers for the Mask Theater, noble not"...unknown...Shady. Likely
"Noblewoman, Waterdeep, Religious, Siamorphe's, House Vale"...Obligated. Corruption. Maybe

Will get to know each and everyone of them soon enough.

Day before the interview...

My Watch Begins

"By all means, have a seat. No need to be that upright yet!"

"Apologies sir. Truth be told, I'm just anxious and nervous all together."

"Anxious and nervous? Why?"

"This an opportunity for me Sir. A chance to do something right by the City, meaningful. Don't want to go back to breaking by back with dock work where I cant even feel proud about myself."

"Ahhh. Well, there is nothing wrong with wanting to make a difference for the city. That is a healthy motivation..However.. You will not always get the respect you assume you'd get while doing the work...So let's focus on that. Do you think you can keep your calm when citizens end up being disrespectful while you do your job?"

"If that's what's needed to continue forth I surely can Sir. I do understand how some..lack the respect for authority. But so long as they stay weary with the presence of it, I think its a start Sir."

"While I agree with you there. There might even be situations where a citizen attempts to spit upon your person, How would you deal with that?"

"Professionally Sir. After all their still citizens and our people. And emotions can get the best of unhappy folks. But until the moment they actually commit a crime, I know best to stand firm with my resolve."

"As a recruit, you are not yet allowed to -enforce- the law, You uphold it"

"Yes Sir understood."

"Just so you understand, studying and knowing the entire law by heart is mandatory. You will be taking examinations on them. As a Recruit you are only expected to patrol the walls, streets and outer city for now. Well, Mister Brows. It seems you are eligible to join us. So if you still are certain you wish to do this?"

"As certain as the human blood that runs through my veins Sir. Been looking forward to this."

"Then, congratulations are in order! Excellent, I will get that uniform and Cloak then"

Image

I did it. I'm a member of the City Watch. Determination paid off. No more will I have to break my back moving supplies and crates. I think I did rather well in my interview. The Watch don't seem to have a liking for Tieflings. Nor those warlocks. I don't blame them. I will keep this entry short, for my Watch now begins...

Entry Six

Second day wearing my Watch Cloak. I pushed the eight hours , I admit, the night was more interesting. Felt good to walk along the walls overlooking the city. Was a good advantage to see from above. No crimes, nothing out of the ordinary, nothing worth reporting. I decided to make it a habit during the late night to patrol the Uppercity, turning on the lights around rest spots. Lower City already had the Fists. Not much to cover with them there already. Wouldn't surprise me the lot of them in someone's pocket. Can't blame them, dont really feel safe walking those streets at night without a partner. Too many dark corners and alleys. But I'll be damn if someone thinks they can corrupt me. Wonder how long it will take to get a promotion, so I could start enforcing the laws. Officer Bright said he just became a recruiting officer. Damn and it sounded like he's been in ranks for years.

Image

Had some interesting encounters at the East Gate however. It was well past the middle of night. I was stopping some travelers and just mainly questioning where they were going or where they were coming from. One of them seemed in a hurry, seen her running. She was trying to deny that she was. I'm no elf but my eyes saw her running. I inquired and she seemed annoyed that I did. Good . Just another one to keep my eye on. Each and everyone that looks suspicious to me, I'm going to make efforts to get their names and write it down. I cant stop them from where their going to or from in the middle of the night. Not now at least as a recruit. But one day, one day I will be given the authority too. And when that day comes, these folks better have a damn good answer. Or they can stay in a cell until the sun rises. I wont even care if they don't like me, it's for their own safety.

Entry Seven

The nights had been pretty uneventful. So I decided to try to patrol during the day hours. Streets was busy with commoners and merchants. Everything had seem fine and normal. Until I met a woman was distraught. She claimed some two bit thieves stole her ring. I decided to offer my assistance, more so because she was persistent.

Image

She said the thieves had fled into the sewers, soon as I found the nearest grate, I descended in the world below. I barely took a few steps. Between the hungry rats and ambushing thieves, I was soon losing ground. The rats were annoying, so I decided to do away with those first. But it felt like the thieves just kept on pour. I had to bottleneck them in one of the tunnels. A sound tactic and it worked. After the long intense fight, I was the one still standing, and I had the ring. Looks like I will make a citizen happy today. But damn, now I realize why Officer Bright said to just stick to patrols and don't go below without a squad. Those thieves might had been of the lowest status, but that ambush surely hurt some. Will be the last time I go down there alone.

Entry Eight

"Been hearing some whispers and talks about a murder in the Gate. Been trying to patrol around and keep my eyes peeled for anything unusual. Still haven't seen the report about this Murder case, but it wont stop me from patrolling around looking for a culprit. Ran into some people in the night, I advise them that they should go indoors. Due to talks of a Unsolved Murder. But I didn't expect much from the commoners, after all, I was in the Heaps at that moment. The lower city is filled with the lowly folks, hard laborers , beggars, and even some of the filthiest scum. Decided to stay off the streets in the lower city. Dont like the ideal of being a cutpurse victim myself. I took the walls until I made my way back to the Upper City.

Image

Unlike the Lower City, most of the residence where indoors avoiding to be out during curfew. They were the smart ones. After all, they could afford the all the education to raise their intelligence. I would continue my patrols, maybe do some overtime, besides, it was my duty as a Watchman.

Entry Nine

Started my rounds early in the morning. Figured to change it up, don't want people to get familiar with my schedule. Paid a visit to the Blushing Mermaid since the sun was up. Dont like going to the Lower city at night. My presence made the patrons nervous. Think I stepped in someone's emission. Quite disgusting but not surprising given the place. With a murder suspect still on the loose, The Blushing Mermaid is surely another filthy scum hole that would cater to such an individual. Place is filled with shady folks. Didn't see anything out of the ordinary. but was interesting to sweat them some. Heard talks of the description of the possible culprit however. Said to be a tall burly man with a scar. Yeah I know that fits a hole lot of the population but still something to go on.

Made a stop over that Lewd Lyre soon after. Far as I'm concerned, anyone not wearing a City Watch Uniform is a potential suspect. The Priestess of Ilmater was just leaving the place. Found that to be odd. But it was told to me she was there to help heal someone of old wounds. The elf there looks like one of the employee, frail looking man said as much .Sweat him some. After all, never know who could be harboring this murder suspect. History shows even nobles commit acts of crime. Overall, nothing out of the ordinary.

Ran into to other women on my way to make my report. One hooded lady who gave me a bar of soap. Think she was subtly trying say something. The other was that ginger haired Virin. Shes a stubborn one. I keep having to tell her it's not safe to be out lingering at night.

Entry Ten

Was doing my rounds in the Wide, came upon a woman just standing around looking like shes waiting on someone. I engaged and asked and sure enough she was. Saying she was looking for some old woman name Wendi. She claims to be a visitor of Baldurs. Stated she lives over at the Phoenix lodge. I Escorted her out to the farmlands, didnt want to go through the lower city at night. Whole place bad in my opinion and I didn't have my partner with me. Later that Wendi woman showed up . She was an old woman from appearance. Seems they had some trade deal to do. I asked the lass if that old woman was Wendi the person she was looking for and she confirmed it so. I did get the lingering womans name though, looks like a young adult, dressed funny with greenish fabric, most notable trait is the white turban she was wearing on her head. Didnt bother asking the old woman anything. The elderly had their time in life, I think best they should at least have their ending days with some humble peace. She looked harmless, unless shes some witch of course.

Met a man during the time Laei was talking with Wendi. Old dog of a sailor, didnt seem pleased I stopped him but I surely didnt care. I got a job to do. Asked him if he was a citizen or a visitor, he claims hes a citizen but just returning after three years. He does have a dog for a companion Halan was the name looked like a season sailor, white hair, plenty of scars and got the weather look on him. I wouldn't put it past me if he was a pirate.

While I was talking to Halan , another man approached. He was drunk too. Dark dusty skin in color with a rugged black beard. Wore greenish armor and a cloak and some crown on his head. Self titled surely that crown likely weaker than bronze. Said his name was Koolah Salukkkee . He slurred at the surname and his first name sounded ridiculous to me. I'm not aware of Public drunkenness' being against the law, and while I'm still a recruit, I avoided being aggressive in telling him he should go to a nearby tavern. He surely doesnt fit the description of the murder culprit. But to call this man weird and off is an understatement.

Will turn in for the day after my report. Overall, nothing out of the normal nor any incidents. The Presence of the City Watch continues.

Entry Eleven

Was doing my rounds in the East District when I heard one of ours yelling for a man to halt. I went over to see the situation. There was a man with wielding a staff. He appeared to purposely evade the other Watcher. I seen him enter Aldos' tailor shop, just as I was near approach he exited the shop and tried to run off up the street. I yelled out to halt him and he did so. I told him he was in violation of the law and to put his weapon away. He tried to play it off that it was a walking stick. Had the man been a old man I would have given consideration but the he looked young and he was running with out any problems earlier. Once he realize I wasn't falling for his excuse he tried to bribe me by offering me coins for a drink. I made it clear to him I dont drink on duty. Guess he realize I wasn't a Watcher he could bend. I then tried to ask him if he was a Citizen or a Visitor of the city. Had he said Citizen I would had asked for his name, had he claimed to be a visitor, I would had just gone with the warning. However he evaded the question ,and when I kept pressing, he back up a few steps, drank a potion and fled off becoming invisible. I gave chase but didnt have the means to see someone with an invisible spell so I retreated and posted by the East Gate.

I returned to the Citadel and filed a full detailed criminal report, with the listed violations,

Attempting to Bribe a City Watch
Brandishing a weapon
Disorderly Conduct
Disobedience by refusing to put away his weapon and fleeing evading authorities.

I'll leave it to the senior ranking officials on the course of action. I may ask around the common folks if they happen to know the name of the man fitting the description I turned over.

Entry Twelve

Was approached by a woman today outside the gate to the Northern Farmlands. She wanted to report a stalker complaint. She said there's a suspicious looking individual carrying a dagger stalking her friend. We headed to the Wide to make sure her friend was in good health. We found her with the Second Hand , and she appeared to be unscathed. They gave a brief description of would be stalker. Said he was large, heavy dark armor. Very ugly round helmet. Looked like a Gibberling. Thin Moustache. I returned to the Citadel and filed a full detailed criminal report, with the listed violations.

Image

Disorderly Conduct Namely brandishing a weapon located in the Wide.
I didn't see Stalking listed as a crime, but I think it could fall under Disorderly Conduct.
Suspected of Attempting Violence, such as possible harm to persons.

I'll leave it to the senior ranking officials on the course of action. I may ask around the common folks if they happen to know the name of the man fitting the description I turned over. Despicable thing when a man stalks a woman. Don't think one can get any more creeper than that. I'll be happy to see this guy in a cell. Scum like that don't deserve to walk the streets of our city. Lucky I'm still a recruit. If I find him myself, might be one time I think I wont be able to hold back.

I still been focusing patrols by the Black Dragon Gate given the north farmlands is in route to the back way to Ulgoths Beard. Place was overrun by demons from the Abyss I heard. Makes me wonder what the Fist was doing or who the adventurers were that was in charge of defending the Beard. I don't know who's in charge of the whole thing, or even whos responsible for some Abyssal Rift. I guess somewhere down the line, intelligence wasn't a thing. City should have placed a bounty on whom ever was responsible. Preventive means in it self is a good offense. Can't believe it, a whole village lost. Then again, I dont really care truth be told because it wasn't Baldur's. My heart is for the city and the city only. Not giving a lick of care to anything beyond the place I call home. My probation period should be up soon, be nice not to be a simple patrolling recruit. I want to catch these bad guys and those fake corrupted folks walking around like they big something. Far as I'm concern, anyone not in the same uniform as me is likely dirty. I will always look at them like suspects. Except maybe that priestess of Ilmater. That one there far too humble, but then again, just never know...

27 August 2024
( 26 Eleasis 1360 )

Entry 13

I read Recruit Haphet's report. Can't say I'm shocked nor surprised. The less intelligent will always be the less intelligent. Common's can't even understand what it is we are trying to do. There's a cult out there murdering people, their people. And we are just doing our jobs and following orders. Do they think we like having to walk around all over this big city knocking on doors and interfering with peoples lively hoods and dealing with peoples attitudes? They surely ain't the ones doing it, they wouldn't last a tenday. They want to make a difference in this city, then they should be out here helping look for whos killing their people. But instead they want to go around huffing and blowing hot air to the ones that's spending most of the day and night trying to protect them.

I've always said the disrespect against authority was out of control. That Half blood orc Rhaeg claiming to represent the common's, while spitting on women. Yeah if the Dukes given ear to folks like that, that surely sayin much about who running this City. Seen the report of how the others locked up a bunch of upset people over night until they calmed down. Disorderly Conduct is disorderly conduct. Its law. Starting to wonder if most these people even know how to comprehend the three letter word. They lucky I ain't an ranking officer. I'd charge every last one of them accordingly. It's so easy, I can name all the charges on the top of my head. Disruption of official business, Disorderly Conduct, that's enough for a fine and imprisonment depending how much it's pushed. Our holding is luxury compared to the Fist prison. They should be happy they didn't get sent off there. Most people don't even come out the same by some rumors.

Gonna get ready for another patrol, still got a job to do, after all, orders are orders. No one can dare say I dont do my job. Going to need to talk to the Captain, see if we can get some blood hounds on patrols. Might help sniff these culprits out.
