Physical description:
Melek is a petite woman who appears to come from southern regions. She mostly wears a dark green hood with a gold-trimmed hem. Her clothing seems functional and practical, kept in subtle shades of green, black or blue. Her skin can be described as a light bronze tone, and when light hits it at the right angle, her skin gleams faintly copper. A glance at her face reveals her almond-shaped green eyes with golden speckles, high cheekbones, and pointed yet rather small ears, which only peek very slightly from under her dark brown almost black velvety hair, at least when her hijab or a hood does not cover it. But it seems she tries to her ears so only a few will notice that the tip from her right ear is missing. Additionally, she bears a scar on her cheek.

Her movements are fluid and deliberate, indicating that Melek possesses a good sense of body awareness and agility. As her weapon of choice, she carries two short swords, one of them intricately forged and judging by its polish, seemingly her most precious possession. A small dagger is also attached to a leather strap around her thigh. Additionally, several pouches are attached to her belt.
Personality:
Her life as a slave instilled in her a deep-seated scorn for a society structured by unchangeable ranks, making her disdainful of nobility, those who think they are right and just, and in a degree mages. Despite this reluctance, she can fit in well in society and behave, at least on the surface and with stranger. She knows how not to reveal too much about her opinion and and she knows how to abide by the rules of society. Due to the harsh treatment, she endured as a slave, she felt insignificant, powerless, and without real options, yearning for one thing only: freedom and the power to keep that freedom by any means. Being a half-elf, always different from others, greatly intensified this feeling.

After fleeing Calimport, it was just her and the darkness for a long time. She was often entirely alone and had to rely on herself, making her often sceptical at first and it’s not easy to truly earn her trust or learn about her actual goals. But she can work with others and if someone earns her trust, she is reliable. Because of everything she experienced, she has no qualms and does whatever it takes to survive and to get what she wants. Melek is also a very curious person who asks many questions from an intrinsic motivation to learn new things.

Since she has the feeling that she missed out on life for a long time, she now thinks, that she has the right to take everything that she did not have before. In short, she could be described as a someone for whom her own life and her goals comes first but she’s also a free spirit who rather would break established orders.
History:
Melek was born to a half-elf slave in Calimport, the unacknowledged daughter of the household master. Raised in a poor servant’s house, she grew up listening to her mother’s stories of the world beyond the slavery, tales of forests and freedom that fueled her longing for a different life. Her elven heritage was a distant dream, a connection to a family that had cared for her mother before she was taken as a slave. At 12, Melek was sold to a man associated with the Red Wizards. Life under his cruel hand was a nightmare, but Melek refused to let herself be broken.

Despite the harsh realities of her life, Melek held onto her free spirit, knowing that she would wither away if she didn’t find a way to escape. With the help of some other slaves, she planned her escape. They packed provisions and Melek stole a fine crafted short sword from her master she had long coveted—a blade rumoured to have the power to cut through the veil.

She had to leave everyone behind, and the escape didn’t really went as planned, some died on the escape and she and another slave, Samir, were able to seek refuge in a cave system that led to the Upperdark, but soon found themselves lost and running low on supplies. Samir eventually succumbed to exhaustion, leaving Melek alone until she was discovered by followers of Ibrandul. They took her to a hidden shrine in a crystal cave, where they taught her the ways of survival in the dark, guiding her to adapt to the shadows and learn the mysteries of the upperdark.

After proving herself through a final test of finding her way out of the cave with only her sword and a belt given to her by her mentor Avarrus, Melek left the desert of Calimshan behind. She traveled north, passing through cities along the Sword Coast, making a living as a hireling.
