BIOGRAPHY

Family

His house originated from the ancient, tragic empire of Myth Drannor before fleeing to the safe havens of Evermeet during the Retreat. Lord Sariel Oronar, a stubborn High Mage of Evermeet, consider "lesser races" barely worth considering, and his son's wandering reckless and youthful, unbecoming of a grown individual. He regularly sends magical missives demanding his return to marry a proper candidate and live a respectable life...which get systematically disregarded. Lady Elysia, his mother, is a priestess of Corellon and unlike her husband, she understands Vaelen's calling to be a dynamic weapon of the Seldarine, out in the wider world.

History

For about three centuries, Vaelen Oronár lived between the sandy shores of Nimlith and the timeless, golden spires of Evermeet, perfecting the lethal geometry of the Bladesong and the high arcana of the Seldruin. To a long-lived Sun Elf, the world outside was a chaotic blur of short-lived human kingdoms rising and crumbling into forgetfulness. Vaelen only left his paradise when a vision from Corellon Larethian pointed him towards the messy, volatile frontier of the Sword Coast. Vaelen now walks the Western Heartlands as The Wandering Light: he tolerates the damp, claustrophobic alleys of Baldur’s Gate only to hunt rogue human mages and extraplanar threats before they can cause catastrophic damage. His true purpose, however, pushes him further north, towards the Misty Forest: that's where his fading visions are leading him, where he is destined to be. Despite all the guidance, he yet remains a nomadic sentinel—an absolute, blinding storm traversing the dark horizon, chasing starlight and answering only to the heavens.

Future and Plot Hooks

The visions brought Vaelen to the Coast for a reason, so the first step would be making contact with the People who call the Misty Forest their home, trying to discover what that reason might be. That does not, by any means, exclude taking care of his duties as defender of the People (and generally speaking, of those in need, Elven-blooded or not) in the process. A potential issue might be that Vaelen...well...he does not really care about the laws of the land, nor rules, generally speaking...and that might end up constituting an issue, in some cases, as you can surely imagine.

Heirloom item

Vaelen is clad in the best clothing, armor and equipment that gold can buy, with a few very rare findings from his own adventuring. However, his most prized possession is Mournblade, a very strange-looking longsword that is evidently far from being Elven-crafted, yet still radiates an aura of considerable power which poses some interesting questions on its origins and history.
“Know me and fear me. My embrace is for all and is patient but sure. The dead can always find you. My hand is everywhere—there is no door I cannot pass, nor guardian who can withstand me.”
