Earindil, 'the Last Arrow'

Unread post by Diogenes of Sinope »

[[Note: See also 'The Imaginary History of the Cloakwood Company', by Earindil Ailusigen.]]

Name: Earindil Ailusigen (YAHR-in-dil aye-loo-SHY-gen)
Aliases: Ears (which he disdains), Eari (which he also disdains), ‘The Last Arrow’ (unknown on the Sword Coast).

Race: Wood Elf
Gender: Male
Alignment: Neutral Good, philosophically (though his personality may imply chaotic)
Profession: Has had many, but he is currently a traveler. Along the Trade Way, he is best known as the proprietor of the Cloakwood Company.
Deity: Solonor Thelandira
Age: In his fourth century.

Height: Tall for a surface elf
Body Build: Very lean, but with muscular definition (especially his back)
Hair: Dark brown
Eyes: Umber
Skin Tone: Copper
Markings: Relatively unscarred and unmarked, save for a dark discoloration that runs across his chest from his left shoulder to the bottom of his ribcage, a scar from an ancient wound.
Accent: Unique, though his common has hints of Northern inflection. He idly whistles and lilts simple melodies from a repertoire foreign to the Sword Coast.

Recognizable Attire: Dark green Cloakwood Company tunic with brown cloak.
Equipment Commonly Worn: A bright mithral chainshirt, a troll-leather belt around his waist from which his quiver hangs. His arrows are long with (usually) green fletching (he colors the feathers using a malachite-pigmented dye).

Known:
-- With Dennis Green and the wizard Xation he founded the Cloakwood Company, a multi-purpose fellowship of handy (and reliable) individuals. The Cloakwood Company is generally regarded as a benevolent organization;

-- He is often absent from the Sword Coast, which for him is only a stop on a longer journey.

Known to some:
-- He is somewhat atypical for one of his kind because he has, at this point, spent the majority of his life around humans, and has adapted to living among them. Long ago, he had little choice but to rely on human communities for his own preservation, but he has not shed the trappings of his elven heritage: a quiet devotion to Solonor Thelandira, a love of music and song, and an appreciation of natural spaces;

-- He is fairly tolerant of humans, but has a short fuse for dwarves, who he calls “betrayers” and “oath-breakers,” though not without provocation. He greatly dislikes half-orcs;

-- His constant companion is a grey wolf he calls ‘Cloakwood’. The Cloakwood Company takes its name from both the forest and this animal.

In-game Description:
The high, lonesome whistle you have been hearing originates from this copper-skinned elf, who deports himself with obvious purpose. Perhaps his carriage is pride, or a constitutional single-mindedness, for it contradicts the world-weary air about him and the tiredness in his eyes. His clothing is travel-worn, but on his shoulder, neatly stitched in green thread, is the emblem of a canine, and below it, ‘Cloakwood Company’.

The melody he whistles, at once joyful and somber, is unfamiliar, but it lingers in the air as he passes, and remains with you long after he fades into the distance.
