In preparation for a more optimistic season Deck of Cards is preparing investment opportunities in the following days. House Blackrose apparently took an early bird offer to get in at basement level and in doing so establishing a financial presence in Baldur's gate. Other regular investors will be hoping for better seasons in the months ahead, as winter food shortages brought mixed fortunes to many.

Donol McDonol, musician and rumoured Seelie Fey, was spotted in and near the Cloakwood, playing a tune and answering questions on recent coastal events. What useful news if any was revealed remains currently between him and his audience.

Further south a small group of necromacer like cultists have tried to establish themselves south of Beregost providing helpful services to passing traders.

Elturel is awash with rumours of measures that have been taken to make river and overland routes a power for good this year using a number of methods drawing on internal and external resources. There is some talk of collaborative building along the river to improve trade.

The Old silver mine in troll claws and once the lair of Yhogovolish the invincible, a devil from the Devil wars, is said to to be so full of forgotten chambers, those exploring never find quite the same journey any time they explore. Suited to larger groups with a wide skill base such a party is often better rewarded for their effort. The vast and endless caverns holding old and lost treasures, some accumulated by the Devils in their day, others by the assassin cult or miners before them.

Yhogovolish himself is said to still stalk the coast seeking allies and lost relics.

Robin Goodfellow who recently delivered a talk at Greenest is rumoured to have moved away from the Coast once again.

Trade opportunities, in the form of pop up markets along trade routes have and continue to provide opportunities for profit especially for those with trade skills or perhaps less willingly providing a profit to those with sleight of Hand skills. (ooc mechanical pop opportunities for extra profit, rp as suits the gaining of some extra gold)

Lost lore is often to be found along the coast. Lore effectively locked away from the ignorant in research. Research lore skills are the key to unlocking lore hidden usually amongst so much information the true value of information can only be established with such expertise.

(ooc locked lore books might be found that need skills to open and unlock lore - please rp as research among a large collection of information at scene or elsewhere)

Long lost treasures exist along the coast so they say. During the normal course of making a profit along the tradeway, in between training and patrolling, on a rainy day perhaps, exploring strange and otherwise useless pieces of information might open a door on this lost world and it's wealth.

ooc: TY to all players who keep the world alive, and particularly those who one way or another do not discard found information dropped into game, even if not particularly interested for their pc, but move that information and items along as part of enhancing the drama for all.

As spring approached some other things leapt forward too. Triel passed one or two local regulations putting some authority into civil hands among the local hamlets. This prompted renewed confidence in the area and some further settlement. On the back of this good news The shrine at Triel was voted Helm shrine of the year and a small delegation of clerics arrived to support the local hamlets and Triel itself. This and the news an ORH sponsored bridge was underway nearby has led to a small boost in trade opportunities along the river all the way to Baldur's Gate.

After some specific raids, whatever the cause, into the Cloakwood, ousting Dark Druids, and a dearth of dopplegangers, some of the forest was visited by more benign animals in a resurgence of wild and natural that was once the mark of the Cloakwood. Plants replace a charred landscape, birds spread back into once cursed areas, nature returns at a most impressive rate.

A rumour persists around Beregost that a group of necromancers operating in the Wyvern Hills of plenty recovered a relic of Necromancy and have taken it east.

another week on the coast.

The new trade season opened for Deck of Cards, a trade house at Baldur's Gate. They declared some modest profits and opened the books for the next season's trade. Along with individual investors House Divine and House Blackrose both hold investments here. The greater profit returned was in the area of ships and ship repairs. It is unclear what lies ahead.

In the Fields of Dead some ORH tracked after a wanted fugitive who had escaped with stolen loot. House of Vale patrolled western trade routes more frequently used recently in light of Gnome Cultists operating in the north. Profits were there to be had in the area as a result.

Rocky Creek took advantage and ran trade through their base in Greenest. Rumour has it opportunity for intrigue and profit in the murky dockside streets of Baldur's Gate and beyond to the south lingered briefly. Whatever might have been made of such chance at glory is lost in the same backstreets for now.

A vampire was slain in the wyvern infested hills north of Nashkel opening trade routes once again. Triel passed some laws which restricted Gnome Cults operating ensuring the safe passage of trade goods continue unimpeded. In deepest Cloakwood a small band of pixies are said to have established a new territory at the behest of a local Druid.

The trade season progresses optomistically for Deck of Cards, a trade house at Baldur's Gate. The big money they say lies to the south while trails through the north east and east are threatened by military activity. Coastal and river trade has increased though as time passes this extra traffic it is feared may draw the attention of pirates and the like.

House Anjinson one of the Deck of Cards trading houses apparently have put up a reward for the return of a lost painting.

Some undead were cleared out from caves around the Wyvern hills by adventurers who explored keen to understand what has brought this blight upon the land. There were some claims a dracolich had been spotted but this could not be confirmed immediately.

Notwithstanding any increased risk to trades overland using the wagon trails there were reports of lost diamonds and increased merchant trades to be had along the trail.

Triel was said to have hosted a meeting of adventuring guilds intent on some involvement in the war in that region. Local security was increased because of this and a number of local laws were passed to limit the ability of infiltration around Triel.

A side effect of a recent attack at the Druid Grove near Cloakwood was a visit ot the area by a delegation of Druids from Moonshae. These Druids later made their way into Cloakwood to celebrate the recovery of the forest. They remained a few days offering prayer and spell. Some opted to stay for the year they say and much work was undertaken to improve the balance in the woods.

A second rare recipe credited to Hill Ramsi was uncovered somewhere on the coast recently however rumour has it this was promptly lost in an ambush in the Serpent Hills. A later search among the hills suggested some adventurers may have removed it.

House Anjinson were entertained at House Divine often described as a leading fashion icon not only in Baldur's Gate but the entire sword coast. Business was discussed.

More undead were cleared out from caves around the Wyvern hills by adventurers who explored keen to understand what has brought this blight upon the land. This included a dracolich and the trade route was declared a safer place for it. The underlying issue perhaps resolved with the discovery of a Dracholich or perhaps not.

The very same adventurers pursued a trail south of some tricksters who had stolen goods at Nashkel. However this trail was lost in the hills.

In the nearby Nashkel mines some other type of pursuit was launched. A group of individuals tracking a mage type that had removed a well escorted treasure from a passing wagon. No more was heard of this venture and it maybe the treasure was recovered, or not.

Rumour has it in the aftermath of a battle at Boerskyr bridge scene of many conflicts over the years an effort was made by a gnome mage to contact the Gods themselves. This tense exchange seemed productive but may have uncovered more questions than answers.

At Baldur's Gate a small scandal was revealed as one of the City Guard was abruptly arrested by his colleagues. Disk Leen was accused of plotting against the guard with another unknown at far off Friendly Arms Inn. However he was robustly defended by his Captain and after a hearing the charges dismissed. Though for many a cloud over his head remains. The source of the accusation was not revealed and they were only referred to as F.

Rumors of the Forests

Word circulates regarding mysterious sightings in the forests around the sword coast. Some report seeing lumbering undead animals marching through the Cloakwoods as well as around the Chionthar river. Fishermen along the river have attempted to remove a black ooze surrounding the fish. They were later found attempting to attack a Flaming Fist soldier. By the time they came back to consciousness, they could not remember how they got there.

Further information regarding the Cloakwood was scarce as the woods are not one to give up their secrets. Some travelers reaching the Friendly Arm Inn report seeing hanging animals from the trees of the forest. Cultists were suspected but a passing druid was quick to correct them. The Cloakwoods are full of beastly creatures and trees prone to kill trespassers.

Travelers have been asked to avoid any dark patches of dead grass or foliage, as the blight could carry deadly consequences. Caution is extended to anyone fishing the streams or river. Much of the dark ooze has been spread by water, and too little is known at this time to assume.

An Arrival at Candlekeep

In the first light of the 12th of Mirtul, a horse and its rider arrive at the gates of the famed library-fortress. The woman identifies herself as a priest of Deneir from Berdusk, and will remain lodged within the walls of Candlekeep as she takes care of official business.

The Morning After

Upon the return of the Guardian of the Cloakwoods, there was a noticeable relief if the woods of the Swordcoast. The days there after were those of recovery as the undead animals crumbled, the blight began to fade, and life returned to where it was once coveted. Those passing through the region will notice small green foliage penetrating the cascade of blighted land as the forests began to mend. Birds would return to the region, as their songs mixed with the turning sounds of the rushing water in the clean streams. The return would take time, but the worst seemed to be over for now.

Rumors from the River

Farmers and local collectives praise a group of mysterious figures wearing white robes and long beards. This group was seen marching through the woods with a wagon filled with explosive barrels. They arrived outside a vicious bandit camp where a fight ensued. The three figures only known as "Hark Hark Apples Doan" left shortly after setting bandit's fortifications ablaze. A man by the name of Enders is looking for Doan Apples and his crew to offer a bushel of his apples from his orchard. The man is quoted saying:

"We could all learn a lot from this Doan and his justicars. Its time we stand up to banditry and beat the apples out of them."

Talking about standing up to the bad guys, less apples and more sour grapes, there was much talk around Nashkel of groups of adventurers searching the hills for dragons, Undead and more. One of these expeditions is reported to have found some old lore deep in even older caves. No dragons were hurt in the making of these patrols. A group of cultists were left with the sour grapes, reeling in the face of an onslaught of adventurers.

Whispers of continued trade discussions over at House Divine which marks every day with new fashionable ideas. Their security, already cautious was stepped up they say.

In Cloakwood far from the war a small gathering of wolf packs was observed. Keen analysts declared this place was the very epitome of a wild and natural forest, well other than the haunted part.

Triel on the other hand very much front and centre to the war was glad to see the arrival of a troop of volunteers arrive from the interior. The troop leader Captain Enfoose delivered an arrival speech about delivering law and order in support of the Hellriders.

Questions were asked of the Yondalla Yarns, whether any answers were forthcoming is another story.

Trade was found to be safer along the coast and out to sea. One or two individuals and trade houses surged these routes seeking bonus profits.

=Part one - The Gods' Silence=
Music

In the middle of the day, when farmers peacefully tended to their land and burghers tended to their daily tasks... The skies darkened.

Earth trembled. Herds of cows suddenly died. From the heavy, dark clouds above our heads, rain as black as tar came falling down, causing burning rashes and withering of plants.

Then, came the meteors. As if the heavens themselves were furious at Toril, the burning rocks exploded above our heads and showered the streets and buildings, callously taking lives and splitting families apart.

Travellers began to talk about being assaulted by horrifying creatures, akin to those from nightmares of the sleeping, appearing out of nowhere, thirsty and hungry for destruction.

The Weave, too, seems to be unpredictable, as every arcanist fails to control their magic. Every spell manifests with random and uncontrollable effects.

No one has any answers about what is happening- even the Gods are not answering. The Power, their gift of divine magic has suddenly become incredibly limited, and any attempt to commune with the divines had failed.

Rumours spread that the followers of Helm have retained their ability to call upon the powers of their God but the Watcher likewise remains silent. Is he the only deity remaining, providing powers to his clergy? Why aren't the Gods answering our pleas?

This is the beginning of a cataclysm of untold proportions, one which the Realms have never seen before.

It is the time of Chaos.

After some time, the wanton destruction had abated. Still, we all flock to priests, wizards and sages to guide us in this time. To answer our questions born out of desperation and fear.

They can find no answers.

Word comes from Beregost, that the town had faced an incredibly harsh weather anomaly.

The entire settlement was visited by a blizzard of untold proportions. What is even more concerning, is that the snow and ice is of scarlet colour. What crops and fruits were growing are now destroyed. People huddled together in their homes to somehow survive the drastic drop in temperature, snowstorm and ice growing upon all buildings.

By the time of the morning, the town looked like an eerie, red ice sculpture, gleaming malevolently in the sunlight. As quickly as it came, however, so too did it begin to thaw.

Though that snow... Was not water.

What a difference a few days make, how the world has changed. Still rumours eventually surface of more mundane happenings as the coast responds to the new normal.

Deck of Cards trading announced a belief that this next quarter sea trade will be more important than ever. Stocks of magic wands, and potions, now something of a luxury item were tipped as best sellers. Escorting overland in these times less certain with spells and spell casters at risk. The trading company remained upbeat about market forces and seemed generally pleased with the previous quarters trading.

In central Cloakwood far from the war and other troubles Druids and so called shadow Druids met in a sense of harmony and unusually agreed that in these troubled times nature might thrive in a more peaceful environment. A near perfect balance obtained.

Triel on the other hand very much front and centre to the war and the effort to keep spells supplied across the coast. The wizard Academy established by adventuring groups donation some time ago had a little trouble establishing the winner of the annual Triel Trophy for research. They opted for a joint prize to Alber Fobhalt and Basil Schollar who had been researching the so called Everwatch Golem.

The Seer Rabbie Rivers declared his intention to take shelter at the Broken Goblet of Roaring Shores where he hoped to deliver the inner sight of the spirits in the coming weeks. in a bid to better explain the terrible events that have befallen the coast and beyond. One or two more challenging observers suggested that this so called safe harbour might offer shelter from reason, risk and wizard hunters and no small availability of strong drink until the troubling times passed them all by.

In more hopeful news a group of adventurers slew a Lich north of Nashkel when the spells that fail adventurers also failed this lich and the common sword brought the creature to ruin. A small amount of loot was uncovered.

However in the last days sadly a river boat full of luxury foods came to grief in the turbulent waters of the winding way. Bandits, adventurers, and local islanders were quick to search and recover some of the lost cargo.

News just in tells of a joint patrol in these troubled times. With wizards at an all time low a very strong patrol of Vanguard, Everwatch and others headed north to Winding Waters town asking questions before boarding a river boat to explore the mouth of the river. They examined a wreck before later locating a troll cave. They later returned to Baldur’s Gate to assist the guard there with strong sense of duty. As luck would have it a nomad was waiting there with his own questions.
