I am planning to make Half-drow (evil) at some point. But i am really stuck on the background.
Where exactly to they stand? Below male drow, but above slaves?
In the forgotten realms wiki it states that they are both born in the underdark and on the surface. Is it only underdark as starting point for half-drow on bgtscc?

You'll want to read this.

Drow wizards are at the top of the heap. Half drow are non citizens and below all drow.
Generally slavery is restricted to "lesser" races like goblins. There are exceptions, but it is generally very hard to hold an unwilling PC slave.

Re: Half-drow
If your PC did not start as a resident non-citizen of Sshamath then outside Sshamath, at least in any Lolthian based city, you would have been a slave. If you were born in Sshamath/grew up in Sshamath your PC would have been considered free and protected by Sshamath Law. However, you would never be or be able to obtain citizenship status (with VERY few exceptions). You would be, and always will be, considered a "guest" to the city.
In Sshamath your PC would, like other drow cities, be treated only a little better than a slave. As a servant of any Drow, the difference in how your PC is treated relative to any slaves would only very subtle. Your PC would essentially be very near the bottom of the "totem poll" so to speak.
Now, as far as character background for a half-Drow I would start by answering these few questions. What are your origins? (Who were your parents; are you half human, another elven sub-race, etc..). Did any significant events occur while you were growing up. (parents murdered, terrorized, etc..). Any what are your immediate goals?
To help that along know that non-residents, except the duergar, are suppose to live within the Darkwoods, a slum. Ummm, nope can't think of anything else right now.
Hope that all helped.

I'm the guy that kills you by using your own greed and stupidity against you while making you laugh about it.
Enjoy!

Thanks, that helped a lot. I have gone from clueless, to actually knowing where to start.
