The Baldur's Gate Gazette Item Rewards Program
The officials of Baldur’s Gate, in conjuction with Vhaire Industries of Saerloon, Sembia, are pleased to announce that contributors to
The Baldur’s Gate Gazette are now eligible to receive exotic, imported items that are not normally available for sale or trade in the area.
Article contributions, whether they are news, leisure, educational, or advertisements, will earn their writer a certain amount of points. Points earned can then be redeemed for a variety of items including custom tailored clothing and armor. Unique items such as gnomish spectacles are also available. As interest in items and contributions to the
Gazette increase, the available items for which points are redeemed will expand.
News Articles
What qualifies as a news article? A news article is an article that is written about any
current IC happenings that are different from everyday life. Examples: any event where a DM is involved; major altercations or interactions between factions.
325 words or greater: 4 points
225 words: 3 points
125 words, minimum: 2 points
Important note: points are awarded based upon the
published version of the article. Any attempts to make the editor's life harder by filling articles with superfluous words will result in no points awarded and a very irritated editor! Please adhere to the regular guidelines for articles (( see previous post )).
Leisure / Educational Articles
What qualifies as a leisure / educational article? Any article that tells about area lore or past events qualifies as a leisure / educational article. Examples: a guide to the Cloudpeak Mountains or an article about the latest fashion trends in the Western Heartlands.
Opinion pieces, as long as they abide by the regular guidelines, are included in this category. Original artwork falls into this category as well, but it is excluded for the words requirement.
200 words, minimum: 2 points
Organization / Event Advertisements
What qualifies as a organization / event advertisement? If any new or existing groups want to spread the word about themselves, then they are encouraged to submit an advertisement. Special events, such as a public meeting, debate, or performance also constitute an advertisement.
100 words, minimum: 1 point
Important note: once an organization has been advertised, it cannot be advertised again for six (( RL )) weeks. Recurring events (such as a weekly meeting) can be advertised, but they will only receive credit once every six (( RL )) weeks.
Shared Credit / Split Credit
Not everyone is a writer, but even non-writers can earn credit! Characters who want to share news IC with Selis Vhaire (or any other writers) will receive shared credit with whomever writes the article. In order to receive credit, the character has to make it known that he or she wants an article written for the
Gazette.
Many writers enjoy writing news from a first-person perspective, but this perspective constitutes an "opinion" piece. Lengthy news / opinion pieces will be awarded a points total equal to the points between them. For example: a news article that would normally earn four points for its length is written in an opinion piece style, which is only worth two points. The amount of credit received for this piece would be three points.
