About the new Shadowdancer requirement

Unread post by Slartibartfaß »

(I hope this is the right subforum for that.)

YAY and THUMBS UP!
Thank you very much for the new "DEX 19" requirement for the Shadowdancer class! :)
Although I expect a few (  ) complaints about that (especially if it affects existing characters as well as new-built ones) I consider this a very good idea as it will help tweak down the sheer number of "part-time-HIPSers".

Now I'm only hoping for some improvements for the class itself with a nother server update somewhere in the future.

Again: thanks. :)

P.S.: I'm affected by this as well since my "new Midnight" will have SD much later than planned. That just added so you know I'm not just mocking others here. ;)

Only affects new hipster wizards, not existing ones. So take that, Narks!

So is this change part of a bigger plan, or is there nothing to look forward to?

And, based on a post by Broham2 in another thread, it really IS wrong. No grandfathering this time. Boom!

But is there a reason to take 10 SD levels yet...

I always thought Shadowdancer should have been one of those 5-level-max prestige classes like Neverwinter Nine and Shadow Thief of Amn. The 5th level (last level of course) would be for HIPS. I'm probably alone on that island.

I'm curious, are the Shadowdancer abilities really good in modern PnP?

Shadow jump at 4th level.
If that could be scripted I'd be happy to make the vfx for it.
Also the shadow critter should scale better IMHO.

No. Shadowdancer even sucks in Pathfinder. They didn't upgrade it while most other prcs got solid upgrades.

It's another path to getting Epic Dodge, right? Fits in with the progression of defensive feats...

But 10 levels to get slippery mind, defensive roll (meh), and improved evasion? Heh...

I'm curious again...

So what is the explanation for Shadowdancer getting is class defining ability at level 1?

Well... given I personally managed to tie down and interrogate with cruel and unusual methods all of the WotC designers involved in this scandal I can tell you the answer is:

Yes, very wrong if I heard Broham2 correctly:
Broham2 wrote:There will be no grandfathering of illegal class combos, no grandfathering of Shadow Dancers that do not meet the Dex requirement.

Those of you that have such a build, inform a DM when you are in game and the DM will take you to a point in your build where it can be 'corrected'.

And please, enough with the whining already.
If you have a character where this applies it would be best that you contact the DMs first before they contact you. There will be no grandfathering of illegal builds.
I'm the guy that kills you by using your own greed and stupidity against you while making you laugh about it.
Enjoy!
