Alignment shifts

Unread post by Lorrdyn »

My question: Are alignment shifts allowed?

The reason I'm asking....
Recently, my character(Lorrdyn, a Lawful Evil drow fighter) started opposing the laws in Sshamath. It started by his adolescent rebellious attitude towards the Charnag Maelthra and their lack of respect for Lolth worshipers. Being from a Lolthite background, he started getting worked up and hot-headed, threatening the Charnag Maelthra to their faces. Drawing his blade deliberately in front of a guard, which is the main law of Sshamath, and telling him that he will not listen to the laws because the city allows surfacers to walk freely in the city.

This has built up over time, so my character is definitely in need of an alignment shift away from lawful, but I don't know who to ask, since the DMs usually seem fairly busy.

It is important to note that being of lawful alignment does not necessitate that you are a staunch supporter of the government. Lawful characters tend to possess some code of conduct that they strive to abide by, and they tend to hold tradition and loyalty in fairly high regard. They also prefer an authoritative and hiercarchical societal structure, but that does not mean that they cannot disprove or rebel against any governmental structure. Your character, being a Lolthite, may perceive the honoring of Lolth to be traditional among drow (which it very arguably is). Hence, it is still possible within your character's alignment to oppose the Sshamath government.

Here is a good link that gives a basic run down of lawful evil as well as the other alignments. I hope it helps.
