It clearly states that it is undead, but it can't be turned, controled or make new shadows. and will not always be evilLarzs wrote:Pretty sure that is from the Shadow Plane so not an Undead in the conventional sense.BlueHero45 wrote:While where on the subject, a ShadowDancer and summon a undead shadow, but its not evil, as the shadow is often not evil but the same aliment as the caster, nor can this shadow make more shadows like a normal undead shadow. I said it wasn't undead in the conventional sense(as in it wasn't animated from a corpse or "turned" somehow)...not that it plainly wasn't undead =PBlueHero45 wrote:It clearly states that it is undead, but it can't be turned, controled or make new shadows. and will not always be evilLarzs wrote:Pretty sure that is from the Shadow Plane so not an Undead in the conventional sense.BlueHero45 wrote:While where on the subject, a ShadowDancer and summon a undead shadow, but its not evil, as the shadow is often not evil but the same aliment as the caster, nor can this shadow make more shadows like a normal undead shadow. Re: Lore Assistance
And as far as ive read on the forums, noone would really know. Sure there are some weave masters or the like with an extremely high spellcraft skill, that could sense something wrong about SOME spells invoked from the Shadow Weave. But not all in general.MasterSilke wrote:The vast majority of individuals would not be too fond of one who utilizes the Shadow Weave, provided they know you're using it.Candide wrote:What is the view of shadow magic along the sword coast?

And they shouldnt be able to jump from their seat screaming "AAAHHHH SHADOW MAGIC" either, even though you OOCly know whats going on.
Shadow magic and the philosophy of Shar should ensure you never get confronted with Shadow Magic intentionally and if you do, you would prolly have alot else on your mind than the origin of said magic
Shar is a well known diety at this point in the realms and much hated or feared by those that dont follow her, but the secrets and specifics of her order is not common knowledge, people forget this alot when they spam those 50+ lore rolls.
Last but not least, whats with the color association? Ive been met by countless people who said "purple and black!! Sharran!" does that mean everyone wearing a green cloak is a ranger and all silvery dressed people are followers of Selune?
Much like in the real world,t here is fashion and VERY MUCH social stature attached to the attire you wear. In the medieval ages people who wore blue on their clothes were often royalties or nobles.
I think similiar standards are attached to this universe. So someone wearing X color isnt necesarilly associated with a well known organisation that use uniforms of such color.
Much like a wizards red robe doesnt scream red wizard.. but a Red Wizards robe, does. Now these are commonly known throughout the lands, in Shars case her uniforms likely arent. Dont be a color nazi when you look at peoples attires.

No one but Shar and the high ranking worshippers of Shar are aware of the Shadow Weaves existance (plus whoever attended the plot Maecius refers to in the quoeted post)

As far as the Shadow Weave's "secret" nature -- it should be entirely unknown to you unless you worship Shar (and are high-up enough among the faithful to be inducted into the secret), or have been made familiar of it through appropriate roleplay.
There was a pretty large Shadow Weave plot some time ago, that affected numerous older characters -- who, as a result, are all now very familiar with the Shadow Weave -- but typically, most casters (and nearly all non-casters) should not know about it.

This doesnt seem to be common knowledge on the server however. I hope people read this.Considerate_ wrote:No one but Shar and the high ranking worshippers of Shar are aware of the Shadow Weaves existance (plus whoever attended the plot Maecius refers to in the quoeted post)

Often people mistake their IC knowledge for their expansive OOC knowledge of the realms, its nice to know a great part of knowledge on various things. But you gotta tread carefully with that people..
An example would be a conversation I had with Rhys the other day, he was talking about the fall of Myth Dranor and Karsus Folly briefly. All of which he had reasonable IC knowledge of, OOCly I know both stories well.. but my chraracter doesnt, she arrogantly claimed to know about some of it however.. but werent able to eleborate.
This is how I personally think people should differ between IC and OOC knowledge.
Much like a non elf wouldnt know whats going on in Evermeet and Evereska, and before you jump in with the "but Elminster does" argument, lets agree that noone on this server has the least in common with such a legendary character. Not even Merielle our dear saint would be allowed passage to Evermeet I think

This is what you should expect from a normal shadow....creepy things
Would of saved a whole lot of trouble if it was just stated that the Shadow Dancer shadow was not undead.....creature of sentient darkness. Its touch saps the strength of living creatures, turning them into new shadows upon death

Even Rhys has no knowledge of the shadow weave, even with my crazy lore skill. You should see me playing more dumb characters, i want scream at all the stuff i know, but my char does not. Like a hunter from the north would know the difference between a Warlock and a wizard, there all just mages to him.Ithilan wrote:This doesnt seem to be common knowledge on the server however. Re: Lore Assistance
I didnt expect you to either, just pointing out there are some things people would likely know IC (like the fall of Myth Dranor, would be really common knowledge to all elves). And things few know.. like the shadow weave, exsistance of Ao, planar traveling, identity of the wielders of moonblades and the like.Even Rhys has no knowledge of the shadow weave, even with my crazy lore skill. You should see me playing more dumb characters, i want scream at all the stuff i know, but my char does not. We are heroes.. but we arent legends
My dwarf knows what ale is, he has no clue what wine is however, sweet childrens brew likely.. etc.

Re: Lore Assistance
What year is it current settings?
I would assume, since the FAI has just been built?1346/Year of the Bloodbird
* "Black Wizards", "Darkwell"
* There is a great frost early in this year.
* Cult of Tiamat summons the Dark Lady.
* Bhaal banished from the Moonshae Islands; Tristan Kendrick becomes High King of the Moonshaes.
* The Friendly Arm is built.
* The Naval Battle of Lisen Sands.
* Selfaril becomes High Blade of Mulmaster.
* The Knights of Myth Drannor receive their first charter from King Azoun of Cormyr.
* Jaulothan Marlyx and two beholders appear in the center of the city of Arrabar and blast most of the city into ruins before the mage is torn apart by a tanar'ri summoned by deseperate local mages. Jaulothan had the Black Book of Beshaba during this time but it was lost in the confusion after this incident.
* Rumors of The Book of Fangs and Talons being carried through the forests of the North by chanting Malarites surface.
* Rumors of some 80,000 drow living in the Forest of Mir leads to panic in Calimport, although most sensibly laugh at the unfounded rumor and at the panic it causes Tethyr and many Calishite holdings.
* Of seven students chosen by the High Mages of Selu'Maraar, three are marked for great destinies. The youths Keryth Adofaer, Talor Vurtalis, and Jhanta Merlistar excel at the basics of High Magic. They privately learn more about High magic in an unorthodox manner - Taranath unveils three selu'kiira and places then upon their brows, sending the students into comas while the gems force feed the knowledge of millennia into their brains. All High Mages and students remain behind closed doors on their estate on the outskirts of Sylkiir.

the question about when it is set is answered there.
And I have a quetion myself lore wise (and gameplay wise) should a Chaotic Neutral character who has began to study necromancy (has necromancy spells aswell as taking their first level in PM) have their alignment shifted?
