The rumors of the war between the Fist and the local guild quickly become a laughing matter among those familiar with the past.

Questions begin to circulate among those same tavern patrons.

Where are the usual symbols left behind by its members ? ask some

Why is this name " The Guild of Thieves" being used? They have never called themselves thus before.

All seems to suggest that another faction seeks to play games.

One rumor returns from that past and begins to circulate with the new ones.

Folks begin to talk of the one known as Toybox and the fate of those that would dare press her and her men. A rumor of this Toybox's obsession with works of stone and her fabled collection.

How many would be joining it soon

Travelers along the Tradeway and the Lionways report strange occurences...or lack there of...

The trees and animals seem to be disturbingly quiet and pensive...a sense of something palatable is in the air..

Fear? Angst? Impatience? Anger? Sorrow? All of them, a mixture there of?

It is as though the Land is out of harmony and it waits for something, anything to be done to relieve some of the darkness that spreads across and through it....

The Land seems to speak, but some whisper and wonder...

Will anyone listen?

A tall, hooded Elven man, his face shrouded by a green hood was rumored to be overheard saying to all he spoke to in a sorrowfull tone...

"Do you here it? It is in the wind, the sway of the trees, the looks and manners of the animals, the Land is in sorrow...unbalanced...something must be done....and soon"

As incredulous as the latest rumors sound, they are quickly eclipsed by one rumor coming out from Candlekeep. According to travelers, Captain Justin Crownsilver of the Flaming Fist attempted to arrest a member of the Avowed, a wizard going by the name of Red, accusing him of being a servant of the Dark Lady.

In the course of doing so, Captain Crownsilver barred a large number of people from leaving the infirmary by positioning a Fist guard at the entrance, tricked Red into coming outside the Keep with him to arrest him, and ultimately ignored the Guide of Candlekeep, Valerius, whose usually calm demeanor quickly gave way to almost otherworldly anger. In short, over the course of the arrest, Crownsilver and his men ultimately ignored the sovereignty of the Keep itself, in front of the First Reader, Tethoril, of all people.

Those who witnessed the event seem divided. Some claim that justice was done, even if the arrest itself may have been one of dubious legality. Others claim that Red was innocent, and has been merely chosen to serve as a scapegoat for the recent attacks on the roadways. One thing is for certain, however; relations between Baldur's Gate and Candlekeep have soured significantly, as the Guide himself swore to have "Crownsilver stripped of office".

The winds themselves seem to carry words as rumors spread...

It is whispered in taverns that Valerius, the Guide of Candlekeep, and an outlaw by Baldur's Gate law has had his life threatened by some vampire, and has had many attempts made upon his life.

It is believed that the Haunted Mansion was filled with a small garrison led by the same vampire, and it was recently captured by a group of adventurers, one of whom was the infamous Noric Patteel.

Also, there have been no reported sightings or encounters with the one known as the "Shadow-Singer" for some time. It is strongly believed that he has departed at long last.

A rumor quickly swirls through the area that the next edition of The Baldur's Gate Gazette will be the last one published. When asked why, its editor gives a solemn answer: "Between the lack of interest amongst the populace in contributing newsworthy stories and the upper echelons of the Flaming Fist banning any Fist from speaking with me, there is simply not enough material to print."

*Galen'ael hears the rumors and mumbles to himself*

It appears the Fist beat me to it and it be no rumor and is the truth. Those who know the goings on in these lands know the truth and much can happen when we work together, it tumbles ever forward for the good of the Land and the people who live here. I hope they do it right, trail or no. His tainting of the Land will end, one way or the other. I would not have not been so brash and would have approached Valerius to try and save face for CandleKeep...I hardly believe he could have known. That power does not belong on this Plane and corrupts all it touches....I hope this be the end of it...

Isabella Villame, on her first night off in a month, was absent during The Fist raid on Candlekeep. Little in the way of rumor escapes the walls of the institution as to her reaction to the matter upon her return.

But truth is, I hear he's the reckless sort, makin his own law without heasitation many a time. Why, just look at what happened at Candlekeep this mornin! *as his voice raises in disbelief* There you have it! He made his own rules an stormed right on in ta Candlekeep ignoring their own god given laws! Snatching up one of thir Scholarly sort without question!"

"I tell ya, that aint right!"

"A man tha does a thing like that im sure does many another crooked thing fer his own purposes. An this don't seem to far fetched now if ya ask me. He be affiliated with this guild bunch i say... Why, how else would he know the leaders true name?"

"An to top it off, why aint these Fists got dealt with this guild if they've been known to be around fer so long!!!"

"You said it yerself and bloody well laughed at the notion of the two bein at war!!!" *as he starts to get worked up and a little louder as he starts puzzling things out*

"I dun no but if you ask me, this Crowsilver be getting himself into a lot of hot water here and he needs to get himself out quick! He be hurt'n his name along with the Fists real bad here"

"If ya ask me he better patch things up quick with Candlekeep and this Scholar of theirs he's kidnapped, as well as deal with this guild business quick!" *barking the word kidnapped for emphasis*

"But, as they say time will tell. We'll see his true nature soon enough as to how he deals with this guild business. Den we'll know exactly wuts goin on. My guess is nuttn will happen with these brigands and he'll use the same exuse you just did tha it wus somone else 'actin' like these thief fellas." *barks a laugh shaking his head*

*A lone old man hobbles past the raucus, using a staff for support and looking to have numbered days...he spits*

Ye blasted fool! That Crownsilver's been attacked by dem thieves and ne'r'do wells more'n I relieved maself! He's hauled em in, hung em high, and did more good fer this durn city than ye'l ever do!

In league with em? In league!? Bah!

A truer hero we ain't got!

*he moves along at a snail's pace, always grumbling*

////anyone need reminders on server history, let me know.. Crownsilver, with all of his brash 'charm', has saved the city and arrested plenty of folks in the day.. this sort of rumor would be quite poorly recieved.

More talk about the tavern...

"Well I say it's a abou' time somethin' was done 'bout them fellers in Candlekeep. Word is th' place is a safe haven fer criminals so lon' as they plead they's lookin' fer knowledge. Knowledge! Pfft! Th' only thin' they be lookin' fer is power! Mark my words."

The man across the table looks bored and replies, "That so?"

"That's rightly so, I tell ya, an' if Candlekeep ain't gonna do nothin' 'bout it, then somebody sure better git wit' it! An' that's jest what th' Fist 'as done I 'ear! Good fer 'em!"

"Hmm. Really?"

"Really! They gots ta do it all themselfs. Can't expect 'ide nor 'air o' 'elp from Candlekeep. Rumor gots it that th' place 'as got a drow lover fer one o' th' top positions! 'twouldn't be surprisin' ta me at all if they got some o' them dark'ns 'iding 'bout in them dark walls, no sir!"

The other shrugs and continues drinking his ale.

*SeveN meanders around the bar, occasionally "bumping" into someone and relieving them of their coinpurse in the meantime. He takes a seat towards the side of the room and after playing a game of "Unwanted Wandering Hands" with a barmaid his ears suddenly perk as there is mention of the guild. He listens for some time to the banter and yells to the two gentlemen.*

Oi! Would you two ladies quit yer prattling! I'm trying ta enjoy m'drink an' all I can 'ear is tha gossip corner over there. Before ya know it, you'll be talkin about yer slips bein in a bunch, men not payin attention to ya, etcetera etcetera.

Everyone 'ere knows tha' fine upstandin officer when they see one an' we see one in Lt. Crownsilver. I seen 'im arrest innumerable thieves in my time. 'Ee is a man o' great repute and the little silly rumors you two LADIES want ta spread are baseless!

Why don't tha two of ya wander down to tha docks an' maybe find a REAL reason ta complain.
