Ki Whirlwind

Unread post by Ambaryerno »

Is it possible to give the Weapon Master back the Ki Whirlwind ability (which for some reason wasn't included in the original game)? It does NOT appear to be the same as Improved WW; Based on some quick Googling, it makes Whirlwind a Standard Action rather than a full round action as it is now. Meaning WW might actually be USEFUL against multiple opponents, especially stronger enemies you can't clear out with Great Cleave.

There is no difference between those two (full round/standard action) when it comes to NWN2. A standard action in PnP means you would be able to move before/after the whirlwind which isn't possible in the engine due to how feats work.

Well then wouldn't it be a logical modification to have Ki Whirlwind make WW usable more than once per round instead, since it's no longer a single full-round action (the description here says it makes "the weapon master's whirlwind attack...much faster, doing the same amount of damage in less time," would seem to suggest so)? Let's say, the number of times is equal 1/2 your number of regular attacks (rounded down).

IE:

1-3 attacks - 1x per round
4-5 attacks - 2x per round
6 attacks - 3x per round

Alternately, if being able to make more than one Full AB attack against multiple enemies is viewed as too powerful or open for abuse, then at LEAST it could just replace one flurry and allow a Weapon Master to use the rest of the round to deliver regular attacks (IE: Attack 1/2, Whirlwind, Attack 5/6) rather than sit back and wait for the next round.

Whirlwind as a feat is virtually useless as it is. Place this at a high enough level and players couldn't take advantage of it just by grabbing a few levels of Weapon Master.

Also, seeing as the additional Attacks of Opportunity provided by PnP Superior Combat Reflexes is also not possible due to the engine, what about modifying it to add an extra Dodge bonus to AC (like, +4 AC Dodge at WM 10, or some such thing)? Like with Ki Whirlwind, make it a higher level feat so characters would need to actually focus on this class to get the benefit.

As it stands, Weapon Master has nothing after Level 7 except for a couple additional uses of Ki Damage. These could be good bonuses for Level 9 and 10.

None of what you posted is possible without a complete rewrite of the entire NWN2 combat engine.

This also goes back to a "standard action" does NOT let you keep attacking.

Besides, WM is already MUCH stronger than the Sword and Fist sourcebook since it's improved crit ability stacks with the keen item property. It is an all-the-time bonus instead of having up the 5/day "attacks" (not rounds).

Weapon Masters are just fine.

...Could you make Improved Whirlwind a little better by reducing it's requirements?

I'm not sure I understand you. But, the weapon master will only whirlwind once per round, which is useful when you are surrounded by a multitude of low HP spawns.

The weaponmasters are strong enough, though. No need to add more.

i wouldnt mind if you got an additional attack with the feat, maybe at -5 of the first one. it would still be situational. hmmm, might want to make it not stack with great cleave though hahahha.....

but a full on ki whirlwind would be insane....but i do feel whirlwind is somewhat lackluster for all the feats you sink into it to get it.

secondly randall did you coin your quote from the deathstars? if so rock on~
