An odd thick tome is found within the wares of a merchant...

Unread post by Larzs »

///In an attempt to bring about possible more stories and ideas to the player-base I have decided to share stories I wrote for one of my favorite old characters back on NwN1. Now...I wrote these like 6-7 years ago I would guess at. So they very well be speckled with Spelling, Grammar errors and a few plot holes. Sorry...not a professional writer here. He was a Paladin...back when that is all I ever played. I had much fun and enjoyment with him and still fondly remember much of those times.

///I was told I played the part quite well, and perhaps this might give a few tips and hints to avoid the whole pitfall of Lawful Stupid that seems to plague many a paladins. Now, most will not know these character, but on the odd chance some of those oldies do indeed play here(I know there is at LEAST one), have fun...the origins of the twisted bastard is about to be revealed...hehehe! Have fun and please do tell me what you think of this....there will be more to come XD

Chronicles of the Holy Knight: Trial 5 - Faith

Unread post by Larzs »

(This book appears to be a journal that was writing as the event took place, like a scribe was writing what was happening in the individual’s mind.)

“Here is another trial of old my child, we shall see how your resolve has strengthened your believe, your faith under the pressures of the world and the faithlessness of so many others”, said a heavy divine voice and as it ended a flash of familiar white light blinded me and I regained sight and focus in a small pub sitting at the bar with a small meal before myself.

*Standing there the man takes a deep breath, his armor clanking as he inhales wondering what has been going on with this little town. Though as soon as I stepped in a divinely cold shiver and foreboding feeling ran through my whole being…..*

*A while later after finishing my meal, I turned to the Inn Keeper and nodded. Smiling to the man I began to speak.*

“So my good man, what is happening here in this quaint little town? Anything I should know of,” I spoke to the kind looking inn keeper.

“Well, other then a small little town with nice natural resources and abundance of game for sport and family. We don’t have a lot here, only thing that you should really know is that demons seem to take a unnatural interest in this small part of the Prime Material Plane. Trying to break through and kill us all.” said the old inn keeper.

*Startled a bit I jumped and rush to the question* “Well….that is quite unsettling, how do you keep them at bay if they are always trying to rid you all of this little paradise,” I asked with much concern for the small town.

“Oh, we are fine in founding days we where all quite the fighters and had a strong kind-hearted knight of Tyr……” *The old man narrows his eyes a bit, adjusting his glasses as he looks at you* “You know….you look quite a bit like him actually, least from the old legends. Anyways, on with the story.”

*Scrubbing the mug with a cloth he continues his little tale* “As our fore-fathers fought, thinking they could just simply kill them all. They all slowly became more and more exhausted and tired, so after few weeks we sent some off our better scouting halves out, they had returned with most foul news. It seems that the demons had various portals directly to the black Abyss.”

*Tilting my head a bit I continued listening to the old man’s story* “I see, that would explain the never ending waves of the foul things,” I interjected wondering where this story would lead, finally nice hearing of other knights I thought.

“That it would, but it seems no matter how skilled they where they would just overwhelm them. A tactic I heard they use quite often….” Said the man with a gruff tone.

*I stood there nodding, just motioning to the fellow to continue his story listening all the more*

“Well, with this dire news back at the ears of our knightly leader, Sire Chrysaor *With that name mentioned you froze for a second and blanked out, but couldn’t put a reason behind it* he had decided that our skill, suffering and blood split to end these demons was something he thought was rare indeed in those days….and still is in some sense,” the old man continued, wondering if you where okay after the mention of Chrysaor .

*I shook my head a bit, regaining myself* “Oh…forgive me, just…..never mind. Please continue with your story, kind sir. I am all the more wondering how they managed to end the demons and bring a nice little place here,” telling him with obvious attention to his story.
“Well, being a devote paladin and knight in the service of Lord Tyr and the Triad Chrysaor suggested on pleading for the gods’ mercy and benevolence in bringing peace to this little land. The knight prayed and chanted, placing all his energies into communing with the gods. With the help of his fellow priesthood, Chrysaor had reached them after a exhausting session and a few days later the Triad had placed their protection on the portals and stopped the demons from coming in exchange for our faith,” finished the old man as he got done cleaning another round of mugs.

*With the story finishing and a wonderful end none the less from I see* “How wonderful, it is good to know that such faith still remains as I too am a follower and knight of Tyr and the Triad,” Telling the old man with a sense of commitment and honor knowing where they come from.

“Well, welcome here. While occasionally a demon does get through and little scuffle happens, minor injuries to occur. It is nothing we can’t handle, actually managing to break through severally weakens the demon and we can remove those quickly and safely,” Nodded the man with a proud tone to him.

*Nodding slowly, I could tell the old man and his little town could fend for themselves* “That is a good thing, I don’t know what I would give for such security. It’s been so long….so long,” *Looking down and sighing a bit* I told the man.

“But….something is changing, we are just a small town of faithful to the Triad. We have our problems. Few folks here and there cause a ruffle, but in the end they know we are good folk and follow them. Since we have such a strong faith and rely on the Triad for protection from the demon assaults, they say we can see things that others can’t. The sky over our town shows a bit of what is happening with our gods,” said the old man. “Lowering himself to eye level and softening his voice*

“Hhhmmm……really that is interesting, I wonder what has kept me from hearing of this little town. I would of so loved to live here, but I guess I am called elsewhere,” telling the man…wondering what life might have been among so many like-minded people.

“Though as we watch the sky…..great arcs of red light and black lightning stream across the sky…….it seems that our protectors our in being assaulted by dark things, probably the demons. It’s actually right on time,” he told me with a bit of concern in his voice not know how it was going to end.

“Right….on time, *shaking head a bit* what do you mean by that,” asking him with a query in my voice.

“I’ve only seen this event twice in my life, once when I was eight and now at the age of forty-one. I’ve been told they try this every thirty-three years. Too weaken and break the seals and in final hopes of truly ending the Triad….though in our long history they have always emerged victorious with a shining bright light soaking the skies. Meaning they have won…..but this year….,” *looking down* the old man stopped his story there.

“What is it?” *Standing up, looking at the man* I said.

“Just the sky…..it’s darker then it was last time and I’ve never read about any past ones of it ever getting this dark….” the inn keep said with a down tone to his voice.

*Hanging my head down, thinking for a bit looking up to the man* “Keep the faith my friend, the Three have never abandoned me and they shall never abandon this town,” telling the old inn keep.

“I don’t know…..I’ve never seen this before, they might….,” saying a sense of apparent doubt can be heard in his voice.

“Don’t say it…..friend….always remain strong,” I told him with a stern voice.

(Seemingly in sync with the old man’s moment of doubt, a gigantic arc of black lightning towers across the sky and it become heavy with a red evil glow that slowly fades to a horrid black as a few streams of white light, despite being inside a inn…..you can see it in eyes above you. As the lightning arced more and more violently a black portal rifts open beside and little bit behind you.)

*Looking to the old startled and worried, quickly turning to face the black rift*

“What the hell is that!” I exclaimed startled, looking to the old man.

“Oh god!! It’s a portal, and it’s…..oh god, they are…,” the old man broke out, falling to his knees grasping his arms around himself in the realization that the Three could be dead.

“No…..they aren’t they can’t be! I’ll not falter now!” I said staring at the portal…..just waiting…

(As another black arc shot across the sky, the rift rumbled and tore open. A horrid, vile, dripping, pale skinned demon [you can only assume] stepped out snarling. Flailing it’s tail about knocking a few chairs over as the townsfolk fled screaming and wailing. The demon seemed to take a odd bit of enjoyment in their screams.)

*Tilting my head down and exhaling, I placed my hand on my blade’s hilt. Readying for whatever it may try*

“Damn…..Foul THING!! Be gone! Retreat to your black little hole, and I’ll spare you!” I yelled at the creature as I saw the inn keep cowering in the corner.

*This thing just turned it’s head snarling, flailing it’s tail about sending chair flying and try to hit a few townsfolk*

*Slowly lowering my head, looking to the ground* “I gave you my warning, now you shall taste the wrath of a truly faithful!!”

(The golden armored man charged the vile beast, quickly drawing his blade. The beast attempt to hit me with him with it’s stinger, but he managed to deflect it and return a quick swing cutting it off. The piece flopped to the flood and a green acidic substance flowed from the open wound, the knight avoided the worst of it but some still got him, landing on his shoulder and upper chest.)

“AAHH!!! BLAST!! You things always have more then one way to get a foe, even in injury you can still cause pain!” Yelling at the thing as I grasped my shoulder….nothing I can’t walk through, I’ve had worse.

(Continuing the attack the knight jumps to avoid a few clumsy attacks, throwing a few chairs to offset the beast. He swung lower-left to upper right across the demon’s torso with his glowing blade burning into it’s skin as he cuts a deep wound into it. It falls to the ground on it’s knees, rasping and growling. The knight takes his blade and swings it at the demon’s neck, the green acidic substance sprays out, flying over a near table melting it and crumbling it to the ground. The holy energy of the blade seals the skin as it’s burns the dead demon lying in front of him.)

*Panting and breathing heavily, I turned to the inn keep* “It seems we had a unwelcome guest, are these the things you spoke of?”

*Shivering and nodding the inn keep says* “Yes….yes…but they always emerge on the brink of death….the three….have fallen…”
(Beneath the helm as you watch this all play through in your mind as you continue to read, you can feel his eyes flare as he speaks.)

*Strongly exclaiming, bearing down with my helm on* “Never, the gods have not fallen. It is your lack of strength in them that perhaps damned them in this moment! We WILL strive through this!”

*A frightened tavern dweller steps up cowering looking around* “They have fallen, our faith has accounted to nothing. Their protections falter as we only wait for the hordes to break through and slaughter us all. WOE is upon us!!!”

*Breathing in deeply, quickly turning to the man with a drive I have not felt for so long* “FOOL!! Silence your doubts, we shall stand strong against this and place our beliefs once again in the god! Faith shall prevail and grant us the light we seek and they abhor”

(The next few passage explain the knight as he ask the inn keep if he has any armor and provisions, he does and the few men in the inn suit up and ready themselves for what my lay outside. The knight stand strong and directs the few men out the inn. The village is set aflame as the demons run about, the men and the knight take careful precautions as they step as quietly they can. Catching what few demons they can off guard and finishing them it a quick battle. The men approach upon a larger…more fearsome, brooding demon.)

*I looked around as I tried to quickly walk by, but the men…the nerves and what we had been doing got to them* “It seem there is another…and this one….oh this isn’t good, I don’t know if we can..”

*The tall, foul black hearted thing turned to them. Looking down grinning so evilly…..full of malice, only hoping to end us* “How….wonderful, a righteous knight….and…pure and others, with hope and faith. I’ll crush it all!” *The tall wreathed in flames figure grinned and brandished a giant blade, crackling with black energy and pulsating a vile redness*

*I turned to the men, shaking my head slowly, motioning them not to follow. I drew my blade slowly* “I’ll stand against him, quietly go around and strike as you find any opening as he focuses on me. Understood”

(The men nodded, as the knight turned around, holding his blade low and charged forth. Midway between the broken down alleyway and the demon he pull the blade to his chest and back, readying to strike the black thing)

*As I pushed forth to the demon, I exclaimed* “For Faith!!!” *I swung at the demon, attempting to inflict a great wound on his upper torso.* “Before my faith I shall bring you down!”

(The black demon, brought his sword up and push backed the knight’s blade and brought it up to bear down on the knights being. But he brandished his shield and blocked the attack, the sheer force of it knocked the knight on his knees and pushed him a few inches into the dirt, seeing the chance the knight quickly turned his blade around and swung forth gashing a wound on the demon’s lower left leg.)

*The towering evil screamed as he collapsed down on one leg, trying to bring the massive blade down on the knight. But rolls away, just barely missing the black crackling demon metal* “AAAHHH!!!!! DAMNABLE KNIGHT!!! You’ll be screaming as I place your head on a PIKE!!!!!”

*Quickly rolling out of the blade, I got up on my knees, just long enough to tell him* “Your efforts may have bested the god, MY faith and these men’s faith shall return the gods and send you to your little HOLE in the lower planes!!”

(Just as the knight finished speaking his words, the demon brought his blade from the ground flinging dirt at the knight as he pushes the weapon to the knight, he holds up his shield absorbing the worst of the blow but cracking right through the shield sending the knight flying back into some barrels, blood can be seen dripping from the middle of the shield as he is sent through the air. A small trail is about the ground, the knight stand back up. Blood still dripping from the shield as the demon chuckles, the knight once again pulls his glowing blade forth, tilting head down.)

*As I tilt my head down, charging I screamed my faith once again* “For the Faithful of the Three!!”

(The knight once again charged forth, holding the blade to his side thinking of when he may be close enough to strike the demon. Just as the knight came with in striking distance of the demon, the vile-hearted creature lifted his sword. But as he was about to swing down a white arc of light sprang forth from the knight and the men readying themselves to creating a small holy halo above the demon streaming out and freezing the demon in mid strike, the knight swung his blade cutting a deep wound on the foul creature.)

*As I swung forward, my blade cutting a glowing steaming wound. I screamed to the men* “NOW!! STRIKE!! Our faith has rendered him open!! Prove yours!!”

(As the men ran forth, the demon was froze in a screaming wail. The men’s meager blade would normally do nothing, but through faith and hope they struck down the demon. But in this moment of great display of faith, the moment the demon fell he began to glow. Red arcs streamed out and he burst outward in a unholy blaze of flame, it consumed a wide twenty foot radius. As the flames engulfed another white halo appeared, this time around the small companies feet. Arcing out and surrounding the men in a small white sphere protecting them from the death throes of the demon. After it ended, the men fell to their knees…..wondering what had happened.)

*The men stood there, blank faced and amazed. Stunned at what had just saved them, turning to the men I told them* “Our faith, saved us. Through the god’s protection the wicked last tricks of the demons could not stop us. Let us move quickly to statue to the Three. There we shall make it truly known we have not lost the faith”

(The knight spent the next few moments patching up what he can of the men and rejuvenating their drive, the knight and the men once again took to taking back alleys and treading as quietly as they could. The small group took a few demons out using a distract and jump tactics. As the troupe ventured through the remains of their town, they approached a tall polished marble statue of a heavily armored man brandishing a sword up high and a shield before him. The statue is cracked along the right shoulder down to his lower left torso with black void looking energy warping it. The same substance appear on the center of the shield warping outward in weird waves, the statue also appears to have a unknown substance tearing from one of it’s eyes.)

*I turned to the men, nodding sternly to them* “Hmm, It seems not only has the town has taken a deadly hit but the symbol of faith as well. Here is where we make our stand, we may fall but our souls will NEVER be theirs. Here we shall stand as your hero, Chrysaor letting our faith drive us to making our final stand!”

(As the men stood there a great thundering clap struck and around them on all side, several black crackling portals appeared warping reality. The men jumped startled and apprehensive of what was to happen next, the knight in the center of it all looked around appearing to be telling the men something nodding confidently. As the portals began to ripple and warp, the knight held up his blade is a pose similar to the statue behind him as he stood tall and vile creatures stepped out. Contorting and moving in odd motions, the approached closer. The movement the creatures stuck, from the knight a white halo and radius pulsated outward drowning the area in a bask a white light, a light for the faithful.)

(Your vision is momentary blinded by the bright light and as you return to the book the thought in your mind are blank, the story is over and finished. What happened to the men and the solitary knight…..you don’t know.)

(As you flip through the last ends of the book on the inside of the back cover there are odd shifting runes, divine in very feel and odd sensation as you run your fingers across them. You can feel if they are riddle, a word games to unlock the powers of the book, but you are lost in the shifting letters, that you feel you will never know)
