Fiends and the Realm DM Swords saga.

Unread post by Vadenor »

//This is an interaction concerning DM swords current campaign occurring on the Sword coast, currently my rogue is out trying to sell information he gleaned concerning the occurrences. If what i mention in this dialogue intrigues you, seek out the organizations listed, i wont spoil you with too many details and tried to write it from my characters mindset without making it too long.
//Oh yes the characters mentioned are Tomar goodmanen, Sir Jonas Rokranon, and Rith'alaria - she is the unnamed one - she gave no introduction nor did anyone mention her name.

Ah, through a series of interesting events i found myself indebted to a paladin by the name of Tomar Goodmanen. Recently i have had interactions with certain fiends on the face of faerun. I decided to bring the matter to light so to speak, for free none the less. Since paladins make such a fuss tromping about shouting 'truth' and 'justice' with the subtlety of a rampaging bull i doubt they even noticed anything amiss.

As fortune had it i *did* encounter tomar along the road to nashkel, with friends in tow. He was with another paladin of some stature, he clearly radiated an aura of command, i belive Tomar referred to him as Sir Jonas. His other companion was a woman, who i also had the *misfortune* of speaking with and would quickly like to forget *ever* meeting.

I told Tomar of the fiends in the goblin ruins, the plane traveling capabilities they possess, and a suspected stronghold on another plane. And i was hailed a man of virtue. Oh irony. Freed of my debt i quickly offered to continue reports, provided i was compensated for facing beings of the abyss....only to be *rudely* rebuked.

Apparently slaying soul stealing demons is my *duty* to the realm without compensation...Fah! Ever the righteous ones, so *mighty* so *pious*, yet they didnt even *know* of these the fiends crawling amongst faerun....how quickly one overlooks the shortcomings of their organization when judging one of different mindset. They clearly forgot the tenant of *humility*. Fah! i stormed off after our first exchange, such idiocy!

i decided to wait until Tomar left, he was clearly irrational when it comes to the idea of *paying* people. However, Sir Jonas spoke of hiring mercenaries before, perhaps he would strike a deal, provided the more, ah, *extreme* elements left his company...i quickly used an invisibility potion and took refuge amongst the trees...until that nameless insufferable wench of a companion detected me, true sight? and called a dispel upon me. Fah, most *awkward* way to start negotiations...Needless to say i was accused of eavesdropping and summarily dismissed. Fah! paladins and intrigue do not seem to be congruent, they would have to *pay* me to listen to their prattle. Never less, my potential for employment here is dismal to say the least.

No Matter, another organization more *rational* might want to hire specialists that can actually get results....such as mystra's order, or clan ironfaar....

The Ironfaar are meeting soon to discuss recent events. Anyone who has knowledge of said events may wish to attend. These are troubling times indeed, and it would be foolish of the dwarves to deny aid when it presents itself.

((Meet Saturday the 12th 1:00 PM Central time at the Ironfaar stronghold.))

A weary and bedraggled elf takes a table at the Jovial Juggler to watch his wife's performance. After she finished, to the usual rowdy but appreciative response she joins him where he's overheard quietly relating a tale of an unusual occurance.

It seems he and a couple of other seasoned adventurers were showing some newer ones around Durlag's Tower when, instead of the usual assortment of under-critters, they encountered a variety of devil-spawn, topped by a huge fiend.

"Heckuva fight -- completely dispelled me and kept me busy with vampirish things, Bigby'd Meric, had us really going for a while." he concluded with a small smile. "But we can safely call it an Ex-Demon now."

"Strangest thing though... it was really talky. Not the typical 'Kneel, beg, grovel,' stuff either. Went on about how even if we won, we lost and that we'd have to deal with his Master."

The escape, as some might consider it, from Durlags wasn't an easy one. The Ilmateri, Meric Marshellow didn't talk much about it after the several of them got back to the surface, except for when they relaxed under the shadow of Gullykin to divvy up gems and exotic items discovered in the tower. Half of which found in a strange room full of treasure chests; the monk had fallen asleep in the hallway outside the room of chests as, he found out only after, some of the chests had turned into mimics and sent the group into a frenzy of surprise battle.

Then gain near Beregost, before they departed. It was only then the monk realized too that the "ramblings" of the otherplanar Fiend they met in the large carapace under the tower might have some merit. Maybe... He recalled among the banter of friends a time near the goblin ruins, not a tenday ago, speaking with Jake of the WeaveMasters and spending a moment to help pile undead for burning and a blessing after, clearly, a horrific happening near or in the ruins. The conversation he had then was all too similar.

Unlike the others, whom the Ilmateri assumed would find rest nearby, Meric and Sativa of the Deathpalms made their way all the way to Candlekeep before they would find residence for a well deserved rest. Despite the sleep deprivation prior to his head meeting a pillow, the thought that the druidess Jaclynth(sp?) was still lost down there in the depth, literally lost, haunted him. Despite everyone getting to safety, he only hoped the capable druidess made it out alive unknown to them.
