Chronicles of the Holy Knight: Trial 6, Prowess
(This book appears to be a journal that was writing as the event took place, like a scribe was writing what was happening in the individual’s mind.)
I was taken to another test, trail again by my lord. After the meeting I was blinded by a flash of brilliant light. Something all to common now, that damn light always catches me off guard. This test had something to do with skill, prowess I belief. He only told me to be best prepared.
Once the light fade, and my senses cleared, I then realized it had to be the test of prowess. The think smell of ash was in the air, with the sickly light faint of blood. I wonder what horrid things have happened here. No matter, I will bring justice to these wicked men……or things. I was placed in what looked like a stone keep but I don’t know I didn’t see the outside, the walls were black with soot from the flames that burned all around me. I still can not understand what drives men and creatures to do such things, I can guess I will never understand. Sadly I can’t see myself reasoning with these creatures.
As I walked through the corridors, I could still fear the unease that something great and evil was in this place. I walked quietly and carefully, checking each room thoroughly hoping to find survivors. I did not. Nothing but the bodies of innocents, as the thought of their sacrifice weighted done on my heart I pressed forward knowing that I will bring them justice for dealing with their killers.
Quietly I walked through the mysterious keep, I heard a horrid guttural tongue of apparent evil and darkness. While I stepped back to further myself to cast a few spells, I heard a quick and quiet little snide howl. The hair on my neck rose, I quickly turned around drawing my righteous blade before me and holding it out. HA! Before me stood a lowly devil…..A lemure if I remember correctly, a small worthless little evil, but a evil worth my attention none the less.
I approached the devil with my blade out, it glowed a strong, pulsating white light. While I knew this was a evil creature the blade’s magic only further cemented my thought. The lemure stepped back as I approached it with my blade draw, I could sense the fear overwhelming this creature, I felt sorry for it, sorry that it couldn’t of been something else, something better. Poor confused soul. The wicked thing grinned at me and sucked in a deep breathe of air. Thinking this vile thing intends to uncover me, I charged forth and drove my blade through the poor things neck, grasping the holy blade as the magic glowing from it burned it’s hand it fell to the ground taking the blade and my to with it. I pulled the blade from it and gave it a swipe flinging the remains on the wall. The odor of……something…..something foul emulated from it’s steaming corpse as I reeled my head back.
With that horrid little thing removed I began casting my spells, the basic Protection From Evil, which I should of cast the moment I stepped in here. Bless, Aura of Glory, Freedom of Movement and the handy in extreme cases Death Ward (no more tricky Fingers for me!!!) and finally Protection from Elements. Now I feel a bit more prepared, I venture back to the guttural voices of something not so righteous.
I slightly cracked the door open and peeked in, I saw four feathered attractive women, Erinyes no doubt about it….damn, they were harassing and torturing a young man and trying to turn him unto the dark path. The hell I was going to let this happen. I sheathed my blade, creaked the door open a bit more, then quickly hugged the wall beside the door. I heard the deviled women mention something about the door, but I wasn’t paying attention only focusing my skill. I turned around kicked the door down and grinned saying JUSTICE IS HERE!!! I ran for the four surrounding the man, and plowed through the devils and knocked two on the group and pushed a third to the side, while the forth jumped out the way. I grabbed the young man and tossed him to the corner in the room, telling him, “Sorry mate, but I gotta get you out of this little fray”
With the man on the floor against the wall, I draw my blade as one of the devil women got up and drew upon my holy powers to bring the wrath of the right on her. As I swung the blade glowed a brilliant, vibrant white light I struck her across her chest as blood sprayed out and onto my armor. “GGWWW my armor, damn you” I yelled. A gleam of white light streamed from the wound as she dropped to the floor. Then the one that jumped away jumped on my back clawing and flailing, before I managed to grab the wench and tosses her over my shoulder, she hit the ground with a crack, I can only assume that it was a wing of hers. I then took my sword and drove it though the wicked winged devils neck. She gurgled and gasped and then ceased to move blood flowed from the wound. Thinking to myself…..will it ever end, the blood shed.
But as I thought this, and at a bad time to, the one that I had pushed to the side caught me off guard and dug her vile claws into my lower stomach, cringing from whatever blackness that came from these claws I swung at her and cut her from the lower right stomach to upper left shoulder, her wound glowing a faint whiteness from the blade I have come to trust time and time again, she jumped back and grasped at the wound, gathered herself and said “HA, you are not enough for our lord, you are dead and will fail this test” grinning and vanished in a weird cloud of magic. As I turned to find the forth one, all I could see was the window open and a few feathers but the window sill. I guess it fled, only wish the others had been so smart. Approaching the window I glared outside, but there was…nothing but blackness, a dark cloud covering the sky.
(The next section entitles the discussion with the man under the torture of the devil and what has happened, and how he was safely escorted out. Only running into a few devils and demons that were quickly removed)
After I returned from the entrance giving the one survivor so far safe passage, I hope he will be safe and can find the strength to live through this deal. After wondering the twisting evil passages I came to a board wooden door. I could hear voices beyond this one as with, but I could clearly hear a dark sinister voice clearly speaking in common. I slowly approached the door, but as a went to creak it open to the door exploded in a giant FIERY doom of the tall demonic figure before me, luckily my magic protected me from the fiery blast and the door fragments bounced of my armor, I don’t need another wound after those winged devils got a few in on me. I stood there grinning as the sparkles of my magic protections fading, holding my glowing righteous blade in one hand with the tip laying on the ground and my shield held high.
“Heh, good one. How’d you know I was here,” I said. Still staring at the ground smiling, knowing that this is the test I was told of. Then I caught from the corner of my eye the winged devil that vanished still clutching the wound I gave her.
“I see, it was you” raising my head looking at her, “perhaps I can finish what you fled from, fleeing from your fate, a chance to be forgiven for this horrid mistake of choosing your dark path.” She only turned and sneered at me and the charged, wings fully spread claws stretched straight forward and rage in her eyes.
“You have chosen your fate, I will fulfill it” Closing my eyes, I swung the blade from the ground and cut her the other way across the chest completing a “X” on her. She fell to the ground, wounds still glowing a faint light from the long blade that has struck too many down, evil or not.
“It looks like this is were we start, devil.” I told the towering Balor.
(A few lines here are here of the Knight and the Balor exchanging words, Balor gloating on how he can not be beaten and the test was meant to fail from the start.)
The demon charged me with a unholy burst, hefting his flaming evil blade for my head, I quickly placed my shield up and caught his blade with mine, during which the demon was breathing his sulfur, foul breathe all over me, though it did no harm it made me sweat and the heated breathe singed all the hair from my face, “Guess there is no need to shave now,” I said to myself. During the arm struggle I knew I was outmatched here, but I did not give up as I had learned earlier. But finally he overpowered me, my blade crashed the ground, but I did not let go of it, his burning blade bounced my shield aside and it cut a deep wound into my left shoulder, but my armor absorbed the worst of it and for that, I did not loose my arm. Thank the gods!
With his blade digging deeper into my shoulder, I knew I had to act or suffer a grave wound, as I kneeled in the ground, I focused and charged my holy energies into my sword and swung at his leg, the bright blade cleaved right through his right leg and left a noticeably huge wound, he reeled back taking the blade from my shoulder. I feel to the group, but as he tossed about from the pain of the Smiting wrath of justice, I gathered myself and got to my feet stumbling about to get a stable footing.
As I looked about I noticed some kegs of something with a picture of a fire etched on them, I ran over there and rolled them to the demon, rolled three or four of them to him and grabbed a torch from the ground and lit it and tossed it in between them. A gigantic explosion result, but after the fire and smoke had cleared. He still stood there, he had a arrogant grin on his face.
“DAMN I had forgotten fire doesn’t effect these thing, of course. I must not be of the right mind”, thinking to myself. He charged again at me swinging that vile blade at me, but I managed to roll between his towering frame and cut him on the inner left thigh as I tumble through, he collapsed and I swiftly turned around and gave a diagonal cut to him back.
The devil just stood there, doing nothing, the cut I just delivered the demon’s back was still glowing, so it had connected and done it harm. But just as I thought it was done the wings of the fiery being burst open tossing me back and violently throwing me against the wall. The demon got up and gave that all to arrogant grin again and charged me and swung the blade at my head. I was graced by ducking the blade not to soon either, it had chopped a nice section of my helmet and hair off and left a massive mark in the wall. As I rolled to avoid the blade I rolled out and up on to my feet, I sprinted away.
The demon only laughed and said, ‘Like I told you mortal, you were destined to fail this test, you have been a problem to all of us for far too long. Now lie down and DIE!!” I ran towards the stairs and run up to get a look of the area where the demon and I have been fighting, it continued to laugh at me.
I ran towards the other end tossing boxes and barrels at the demon, but he would only knock them aside and laugh more. I had reached the end of the ledge a large stack of boxes and barrels were lined up there, I pushed them over, but this time shortly after they fell I ran and jumped off right behind them.
As I jumped towards the flaming devil I charged my final wrath of righteousness, and yelled, “May you be forgiven for whatever damning acts you have done, cause I will not” by blade glowed a extra powerful white light as a beam shot from it to the skies and parted some of the clouds above me. I fell putting all my weight and strength into the blade, I fell down in between the demons arms as the fiery beings heat singed my hair, I cleaved him from head to groin. White light streamed out from the cut and it bent down on one knee, yelling in agonizing pain, light still coming from the cut.
But at that moment I realized, these things explode into a gigantic explosion on death…….I was surely not going to make it. As I looked up I saw the wave of fire coming to me, I was carried and thrown to the wall, my vision became blurred and my breathing labored………..
(The text ends there no solid ending, as if the scribe just stopped writing. Not detailing the finale of the knight, if this is even that)
(As you flip through the last ends of the book on the inside of the back cover there are odd shifting runes, divine in very feel and odd sensation as you run your fingers across them. You can feel if they are riddle, a word games to unlock the powers of the book, but you are lost in the shifting letters, that you feel you will never know)
