Hello. This is a question pertaining to this server's custom rules regarding stealth. I performed a search for the word "stealth" in this subforum, and I got only a bit of an answer (somebody asked a related question), so I'm making this thread to get full clarification. My character is good (but not excellent) with stealth. She's not a twink and does not have HiPS. She's just a support character with little direct combat ability and almost no sneak dice (a bard with a tiny number of rogue levels).
I've noticed that sometimes she will get spotted almost instantly by certain monsters even after walking past a half-dozen other monsters of the same type with no problem.
I've been offered two explanations after asking players.
1. Monsters will sometimes automatically succeed on hide or listen checks regardless of the opposing roll made.
2. Monsters will sometimes spawn with extremely high spot or listen scores. (This seems to be confirmed by an earlier comment by Luna that they spawn with variable spot/listen scores).
The specific questions: why do some monsters seem to spot you with ease? Is one of the above true?

Re: Questions re: Stealth rules
Monsters spawn with variable spot and listen.
But it should only be between like 1 in 75 to 1 in 100 that should spot you.
Essentially you don't have free reign to go where ever you want when stealthed which is how it is on most servers.
Eventually here something will detect you.
Some creatures also have high spot / listen as some area's we wanted to make stealth hard.
