Rogenashe Kwan

Rogenashe Kwan grew up like any child of his station in Imperial Capitol, Shou Lung. He was vigorously trained as a diplomat and courtesan, taught the religion and various facts about the different towns and cities in his father's holdings. Kwan was also taught the order of his loyalties. His first loyalty would be to The Celestial Emperor, next his family and finally himself. His father would always tell him, "Do nothing to make yourself look like a fool. For in so doing you will never look like a fool in front of your family and, most importantly, you will never look like a fool in front of the Emperor."

Kwan would get up early mornings and begin studying at dawn. He would stop only for meals. His father allowed this until the age of ten when he felt Kwan had a good hold on the basics that would carry him farther in life. His father then decided to enhance his training with religion and self-defense techniques.

Unbeknownst to Kwan, his father's blood-line is touched with celestial blood. Not all children of the blood-line exhibit traits, possibly only one in a generation. Nevertheless, his father considered it his duty train his son for this eventuality. For if his son did show the signs, it put him closer to The Celestial Emperor and His enemies.

Not very well known in the Baldur's Gate region, but taught to all Shou Lung children, The Celestial Emperor rules due to divine providence. At rare times throughout their history this has been a small inkling of celestial blood such as an unnatural shade of iris or particularly delicate features. To his father's delight, Kwan began exhibiting strong signs at about the age of fourteen.

Kwan's training intensified even further and he felt as if he would go mad. Every moment of his day was scheduled, even his sleep time. Kwan's cousin, who trained with Kwan in early childhood, grew angry that he was not touched by the divine and received lesser training and status.

Fate would have it that Kwan's father (through The Celestial Emperor) sent him and his cousin to Baldur's Gate to find a mediator that could help with trade disputes on The Golden Way (a trade route leading from Rashemen into the Shou Expatriate, the goods eventually coming to the Imperial Capitol).

They were successful in their mission and were celebrating in a camp on their way back home. Kwan's cousin drank in excess that night and decided to act on his dark thoughts. He drugged Kwan's wine and waited until he fell asleep.

The next morning, Kwan awoke to find he was alone in a ditch beside the road. His scant belongings included the clothing on his back and a few gold coins in his pocket.

Kwan is now stranded on the Sword Coast looking for a way home. His searches have found nothing, so he must adventure to gain wealth and power. He sees this as the only way to return home with his honor intact and bring his cousin to justice.
