An archery contest for all friends of the tel'quessir!
The following pamphlet is spead around the elven community, written in flowing elven:
An archery contest for all tel'quessir, and any who consider themself a friend of the tel'quessir!
I, Celoril Pilin, am glad to announce to you all that I shall be hosting an archery contest soon, to be entered by any friend of the tel'quessir who can hold a bow. It is my hopes that the occassion shall be a merry one, where we all can mingle freely, get to know eachother better, and generally have a good time.
I am hoping that we can have the contest on the grounds of Doron Amar, but if that is not possible the contest shall simply have to be held on the grounds near the Friendly Arm Inn.
The rules to the contest shall be very simple:
1) All contestants will start on an even footing. That means no magic, or magic items, to enhance ones abilities are permitted. Bows shall be provided.
2) The contest itself shall consist of both an accuracy, and a style element. Points shall be given for both, and he or she with the most points out of both shall be crowned the champion of archery, and be provided with 10,000 gold, laurels, and eternal fame. The runner up shall be awarded with 5,000 gold, and third place shall be rewarded with 2,500 gold.
So! All among you, tel'quessir and friends, who pride yourself on your skill with the bow, sign up now, for a chance at glory, or at least a garantueed good time!
A few days later, an addition to the pamphlet is attached:
"Important announcement! After some consideration it was decided that the contest should benefit from a wider array of competition! Therefore, our contest shall also be open to any who consider themselves to be friends of the tel'quessir, regardless of background. We shall, however, ask all contestants to show their face openly, and bare their arms so we can make sure none are medding in foul magics.
All who pride themselves in the use of the bow, sign up! This is your chance to prove yourself in competition with your peers!"
A large space below the text is left for participants to write their names on.
OOC: This is to be an event on the forums, not in game. This is to make sure there is an event that all of us who play elves can meet at the same time. How then, you wonder, shall the actual shots be fired? Well, part roleplay, and part using dice, with a simple dieroll and the addition of your dexterity modifier. Remember, though, that this contest shall be more about roleplaying and being able to get toghether than about winning anything. That being said, please sign up! Once I have enough sign ups I shall start with the actual competition.

The tall archer sits by the Friendly Arms campfire exchanging conversation with those present. As the conversation turns to Celoril's competition, he waxes wistfully about the archers with whom he'd like to compete.
"Leonia... she's very good and we've worked together. That would be a good match. Now Rysdan... he taught her and is supposedly the best there was." He sighs audibly, "I never got a chance to match arrows with him.
"This is a noble competition, cousin." Aearion warms to the idea. "I'll match your prizes, doubling them, just to see who might step forward and be the next great archer."

Aearion Caunwaithon, just a simple elf with a big bow.

River sees the pamphlet and squeals with excitement. "I love contests! Where do I sign up?"
Life is an amazing journey full of lessons to learn. One such lesson is that anything worth having must be earned, otherwise it is taken for granted and tossed aside on a whim.

Snatching a pamphlet out of the air as it attempts to whisk by the wild elf, Sil'vimand considers the contest and after some thought rips the paper up and secures it with his other bits of kindling. Pulling his cloak tight around him to ward from the nights chill he lays down against a tree with the thoughts of wine and merry-making sending him off to a sound sleep.

*Elohir reads the pamphlet as he basks next to the fire and thinks it would be nice to compete with the other elves, for his love of archery and competition is strong. It is what he has done his entire life, all in the service of our Lady of the Forest.*

With word of mouth amongst the Full Quivered adding a precise and sure melody to the local chatter in the local Inn's finds its way into the inquisitive attentive ears of a local bard...Glyd'yah Jarshby's
Hmmm she ponders... "An opportunity to draw my bowstring in the pursuite of Martial Prestige?"
Eyes her exquisite shortbow fondly and muses, tapping her toe to the pace of her lyrical mind ..."So goes your draw...Arrow in flight, Drop the stiff jawed...Hold your breath tight, Smile off the smirk...But enjoy its pinch, How others will applaud...Mark struck and sinched!"

"Excuse me Sir, Is this going to be a stand up fight or a Bug Hunt?"

Lomir Sapa grunts to himself as the inn patrons discuss the archery contest. These city Elves are like children, he thinks, so lacking in the skills to back up their boastful natures. As someone mentions the prize money, his normally dour expression melts into a wolfish grin.

Sipping a frosty cider and warming herself with some onion broth at the Friendly Arms Inn, Elaya lets out a sigh of relief as she relaxes her body and enjoys the warmth of the inn. Taking a spoon full of broth she looks down on the table and notices a carving.
'No remorse, no regret' it says. It means little to her and she figures someone with a dagger in his hand got bored.
Looking a bit further she notices a pamphlet. She stretches her arm and grabs a hold of the piece of paper. She studies it in between spoon fulls of broth.
An archery contest, how interesting, she thinks to herself.
She had trained quite a bit with the bow, she figured she was better than avarage, but yet no master of the bow. Would she make a fool out of herself? Perhaps.
She looks at the table next to the pamphlet, reading the carved words again. 'No remorse, no regret'.
The next day, the archery contest had a new name in the list; Elaya the Archer.
